Iranian foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif defended the appointing of Hamid Abutalebi for the regime’s representative in the United Nations.
“We will not allow a hardcore group specify our agenda in the UN,” Zarif said.
The US government sees the appointment of Abutalebi for the UN envoy as impractical and it has informed Iran of this matter, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said.
Hamid Abutalebi was involved in the hostage taking of 52 American diplomats after the US Embassy takeover in Tehran back in 1979.
