150 Afghan political & rights figures, organizations support Liberty residents, call for release of 7 Ashrafi hostages

150 political & legal figures and organizations, along with human rights associations and organization in Afghanistan issued a joint statement expressing their support of Liberty residents and calling for the release of the seven Ashrafi hostages. A number of these supporting organizations and associations include:
– Afghanistan Freedom Loving Youths Group
– Towhid Association
– Afghanistan Coalition of Intellectual Youths
– Kabol Defenders Organization
– Members of the Herat Students Association
– Afghanistan Chess Federation
– Afghans Associations Union in the Netherlands


Their joint statement reads in part:
“Warning on the threats facing the lives of over 3,000 Iranian opposition members taking refuge in Iraq’s Camp Liberty, we call on the United Nations and United States President to take urgent action to impel Maliki’s government to immediately release the hostages.
“We announce any type of silence and inaction is equivalent to crimes and demand the following measures:
1. The immediate release of the seven hostages abducted during the attack against Ashraf, and currently held by Iraqi forces.
2. The establishment of an international and impartial investigative commission on the September 1st massacre in Ashraf.”
