Jordanian dignitaries, experts call for release of Ashrafi hostages, security for Liberty residents

INTV, 14 Oct 2013 – Intellectuals, university professors and students, physicians and engineers, and political activists staged a gathering in the southern Jordanian city of Mute strongly condemning the massacre of unarmed and Ashraf residents and the arrest of seven residents. They went on to demand the Iraqi government be held accountable, the immediate release of the seven hostages and security provided for Camp Liberty residents.

The statement issued in this gathering is as follows:

“The United Nations in its report after inspecting the bodies of the martyrs of this vicious massacre on September 1 announced in this attack at least 52 were killed, including six women. They were murdered with direct bullet shots to the head and face, while many had their hands tied behind their backs.
“We call on the international community to provide the security of Iranian opposition members in Camp Liberty. We announce that the international community must hold the Iraqi government accountable and we call on all freedom-lovers across the world to stand alongside the PMOI and support them. They have been cruelly attacked numerous times and many of them have been martyred.
“We call on Western government officials to place all their efforts with the UN to respect the dignity of Camp Liberty residents and guarantee their safety, especially the most important subject being the release of the all the apprehended hostages in captivity of forces linked to the Iraqi Prime Ministry Office.
“While expressing our utmost condolences to the families of the victims, we declare that we join voice with those protesting for the release of the seven hostages abducted from Ashraf.
“The Iraqi government must release them immediately and should under no conditions whatsoever transfer them to Iran because we know they will be faced with the most severe tortures and executed. All these individuals are ‘protected persons’ and asylum-seekers and enjoy international support. Therefore, it is up to the international community to take necessary steps for their release.
“We the protesting Jordanians backing the Iranian people’s resistance will continue our support for the release of the hostages by all means, and we express our deepest condolences to the families of the heroic martyrs who are the highest examples of sacrifice.”
