Statement
Abominable news are coming to us today from Bagdad, where Camp Liberty the transitory home of the MEK (PMOI – People Mujahedins of Iran) was under fire with Katyusa rockets, attack that left 5 people dead and more than 40 wounded.
We believe that this villain attack on innocent civilians is a despicable act of violence and it is urgent to be condemned by all states that believe in genuine human rights protection and in finding realistic solutions to the situation of the thousands of inhabitants at Camp Liberty.
We also urge the UNHCR to step in more firmly and to declare the refugee status of the residents at Camp Liberty in order to have their lives protected. Moreover, we urge UNHCR to be more convincing on the Iraqi government to relocate the residents of Liberty back to Ashraf as soon as possible.
We call on the Iraqi Government to do everything in its power to guarantee the security of the residents in Camp Liberty.
Last but not least, let us express our deep condolences to the families of the victims.
