Iran: Security forces fire tear gas at protesters in northwestern city

NCRI, 08 January 2013 – Iranian regime’s State Security Forces fired tear gas on Monday in northwestern city of Hashtrood to disperse people protesting soaring prices of basic goods. The protest began when two persons got into a fight as they were waiting in line to receive rice. Immediately the scene turned to a public protest against the rising high prices of basic goods, according to the information received from Iran.
People had rushed to purchase rice following an announcement by chamber of commerce increasing the price of rice to 25 thousand Tomans. With the arrival security forces they protested more loudly.

The security forces fired tear gas and attacked people. As the result a few protesters were injured and transferred to hospital.
Prices of basic goods rise almost daily in Iran. Soaring food prices has prompted spontaneous protests in a sign that growing economic hardship could lead to more civil disobedience.
