Iraqi Kurdish political parties condemn formation of Dijla Operations Command and Maliki’s positions

Peyamner News Agency, 18 Nov 2012 – On Sunday a joint session was held gathering Kurdistan political parties and groups in the Kurdistan Workers Party headquarters in Suleimaniya on the Kurdistan region’s political conditions and the movements of the ‘Dijla Operations Command’. A joint statement issued after this session reads:
We, 14 parties and groups, the signatories of this statement proclaim:
It has been a while since the federal government in Baghdad has been mustering forces in the disputed regions and Kirkuk and has established ‘Dijla Operations Command’ in an attempt to take control over this city from every direction.
This measure is against Iraqi constitution and the region’s people’s will.
Therefore, we condemn establishment and maneuvering of ‘Dijla Operations Command’.
The Iraqi Constitution states any movement by the Iraqi Army must be in coordination with the Kurdistan region.
Consequently, in this situation we regard the attempts made by Iraqi Armed Forces Command and ’Dijla Operation Command’ comparable to those made by Iraqi Army in the past for contention and internal rivalry.
Meanwhile, we condemn Maliki’s past two year policies that are contrary to his announced administration agenda.
Maliki’s government has taken no measures in this period to implement Article 140 of the Constitution that takes into consideration the just rights of the Kurdish people.
We also condemn any measures taken by Iraq government against the interests of the region and Kurdistan people. It is imperative to annul the agreement between Turkey and Iraq which allows Turkish military enters Kurdistan region. Dijla Operation Command should be dissolved.
We reiterate our joint positions regarding the developments between the region and Iraq. We support Kurdistan political leadership’s stand and proclaim our support for Peshmarga forces and their readiness for defending Kurdistan region.
We call on Kurdish people in general and Soleimaniya People in particular to play their role to counter the policies and conditions that have been imposed on Kurdistan and take all the civil and democratic measures in this course.
