Enormous UN scandal in failing to protect Tamil citizens

Leaving the scene during the Sri Lankan government’s vicious crackdown and the massacre of nearly 40,000 in Tamil regions

Three and a half years after the deadly Sri Lankan government attack against the Tamils and the massacre of thousands of Tamil Tiger members and supporters, the United Nations has admitted to its default and inaction in protecting citizens in the Sri Lanka war, BBC World TV reported.
Obtaining a draft copy of the report, BBC said this possibility existed that many of the nearly 40,000 people who were killed in the war zone could have been saved.

Benjamin Dix, who was among the UN workers asked to evacuate the scene, said as a member of the UN humanitarian personnel many questions marched through his mind about what was going on? This was not our mission to evacuate the scene, he said, adding we were there to protect and witness the conditions.
This reports added in the Sri Lankan capital of Colombo many of the senior UN officials clearly did not consider themselves responsible to prevent the killing of ordinary civilians and no other orders were to be issued by New York. Therefore, when the Sri Lanka government warned UN workers it cannot guarantee their wellbeing and security, they left the scene and the UN never questioned the Sri Lankan government in this regard.
“This finding has profound implications for our work across the world, and I am determined that the United Nations draws the appropriate lessons and does its utmost to earn the confidence of the world’s people, especially those caught in conflict who look to the Organization for help,” UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said in a statement.
It is stated in this report that the UN in the final stage of this bloody war only condemned the two sides by issuing a statement and was reluctant to publish statistics on the human casualties.
The UN report on the reason of this humanitarian catastrophe states the decision made in the UN was effected by normal behind-the-curtain deals. Therefore, it was decided not to make any remarks against the Sri Lankan government that was threatening UN workers, and to consider this method as the only way to increase humanitarian access.
This report states while the Sri Lankan government was pounding a banned group, the world mainly neglected this issue and we now know that the UN failed to inform the world about issues it was informed of.
