Nouri Maliki must step down: Allawi

Dr. Ayad Allawi called on Nouri Maliki to step down saying that Iraqiya’s right to form government was stripped from it under pressures from Iran.
In an interview regarding the crisis in Iraq, Dr. Ayad Allawi waved off all of Maliki’s claims regarding holding a meeting titled the national congress, saying: “The national congress is merely a new show, yet subsequent to leaving the meeting, they will pull out their daggers and begin the back stabbings.
Maliki must be interpolated and go home, and leave the prime ministry for the many that exist. The people are tired of these hollow promises… the people of Iraq clearly understand that this government has failed its first test and that there is no other solution but to step down from power. This is how they can do a great favor for Iraq. Sustaining this government will only lead to more plundering, wasting the people’s assets, nepotism, lack of security, depriving people of their rights and personal freedoms and a decent life in their own country.
“Everyone knows that forming a new government would need legal measures, the least of which is the resignation of the current government. Here we ask: Is Maliki ready for it?
“Iraqiya, the Kurdistan coalition and the Sadr movement and many other independent figures have great opportunities to form a national government that’s main priority is to overturn the current government’s table. The goal of signing the Erbil agreement was to go through an issue that political forces had agreed on. However, as everyone knows, the Iranian government strongly stood against this agreement, and afterwards the premiership post was stripped from Iraqiya. Any chance of political consensus was lost. Despite the fact that Iraqiya forgave its own rights to serve the people and respect their rights, yet unfortunately all of the country’s assets and means of rule were monopolized.
“The security situation has reached a dangerous level, to a point that Iraq stands at the bottom of the list of countries with respect to security. Prices are soaring and unemployment is on the rise, the level of education is on the verge of collapse and we are facing a path towards dictatorship.”
