Iranian dissidents PMOI soon to be delisted

The French-language France24 reported Iranian dissidents PMOI will soon be delisted from the US terror list.
“There is no freedom in Liberty is what is written on this poster. We are in Camp Liberty, located a few kilometers from Baghdad and under UN supervision. Members of the PMOI who are here now had for 25 years lived in Ashraf, located 80 kilometers from Baghdad.
PMOI member Shahrokh Tavakoli says we have no freedom of movement in Liberty. They did not even allow us to transfer our personal property from Ashraf, he added.
This organization was founded in 1965 to fight against the Shah regime and was banned by Khomeini in 1981. This was the beginning of exile. In the late 1990s the situation changed and the world became closer to the Iranian regime that said it has elected a moderate president. Europe and the US decided to place the PMOI in their terror lists. This initiated intense efforts to revoke the designation. The PMOI are attempting to attract public attention, holding consecutive sessions and conferences with the presence of representatives and intellectuals. As here in Paris, the campaign also becomes successful in Washington. Europe delisted this organization in 2009. If the US follows suit, this movement can become the credible political voice of the Iranian opposition and even an alternative if the Iranian regime is toppled.
Afshin Alavi, member of the National Council of Resistance of Iran in an interview with France24.
“If this decision becomes definite it will be an enormous victory for the Iranian Resistance. The victory of justice over injustice because this listing was carried out in 1997 only to please the mullahs. It had no reasoning, especially considering this movement’s way of thought supporting democracy and a popular government in Iran, and considering the fact that the PMOI follow a tolerant and democratic perspective of Islam and are against fundamentalism. They are struggling against a regime that has executed 120,000 people. By placing the PMOI on the list, attempts were made to pressure the Iranian Resistance and force the Iranian people to believe they have no right to resist. This was the biggest setback for the resistance, and in the mean time the biggest aid to the mullahs’ regime during the past 15 years. Iran’s main opponents who are now in Liberty and Ashraf have suffered the most from this terror listing because this labeling provided the pretext for the Iraqi government to carry out massacres, killing 47 and over injuring 1,100 of the residents. They were placed under a ruthless siege.
Therefore, the first issue expected from the international community, especially the United States and United Nations is to do everything to guarantee the rights of these 3,400 individuals and recognize Liberty as a refugee camp. The US court ruling and judiciary forced the State Department to delist the PMOI and practically recognize the resistance’s legitimacy. We support the third solution, meaning neither appeasing the mullahs nor calling for war. We seek democratic change in Iran by the people and their resistance.
