Obama, Cameron discuss Syria, Somalia

AFP, Washington, 13 Feb 2012 – US President Barack Obama and British Prime Minister David Cameron renewed their condemnation of Syria’s brutal crackdown and discussed security threats in Somalia on Monday, the White House said.
The two leaders also made preparations for Cameron’s official visit to the United States next month, and discussed the eurozone crisis, Greece’s financial troubles and the NATO-led force’s transition to Afghan security control.
‘The President and Prime Minister discussed the situation in Syria, condemning the regime’s violent repression of its own citizens, and agreed to coordinate closely on efforts to pressure the Assad regime and support a transition to democracy,’ a White House statement said.
The leaders also spoke about Somalia, ahead of a conference later this month in London on the lawless Horn of Africa nation, which Britain considers a security threat due to fears some of its nationals have joined Al-Qaeda-linked Shebab insurgents.
