Iraqiya MP describes deceleration against Maliki’s prevention of U.S. delegation from visiting Ashraf

Iraq’s al-Babelyia TV covered the Iraqi National Front’s deceleration against the actions of Nouri Maliki’s government in preventing a visit by a U.S. congressional delegation during their recent visit to Iraq. Iraqiya MP Ala Maki also took part in an interview on this subject.
al-Babelyia: In your opinion, if the US congressional delegation was able to visit Ashraf, what was the Iraqi government afraid that would have been revealed to the international community?
Ala Maki: Camp Ashraf consists of a group of individuals who are under a special legal status. Currently, their status is the status of refugees…. A number of Iraqi MPs had visited Camp Ashraf in previous years and took part in various conferences there, including Deputy Prime Minister Saleh Mutlak who was a member of parliament at that time. He visited Ashraf along with a number of MPs, members of the Human Rights Commission, other representatives and various political factions. Numerous political restrictions were raised against them afterwards. Now, the issue of human rights is on the table throughout Iraq. There are various detention facilities throughout the country. It is even forbidden to visit these detention centers and prisons. In the case of Ashraf and all other cases, nobody is allowed to visit these sites. A number of Ashraf residents have been killed. Many cases of murder have taken place in Ashraf which must be pursued.
