Under the Iranian regime’s destructive economic policies, in Tabriz (northwestern Iran) over 70% of shoe production are closed or only open part time. “In Tabriz, we currently have two thousand shoe production units from which only 30% are active, 30% semi-open and 40% are closed,” state-run media cited head of Tabriz’s Shoemakers Union.
“We don’t have decent raw materials in Tabriz,” he said mentioning the lack of raw material to manufacture shoes. “On the other hand, due to high custom rates we cannot import these materials from foreign countries. In the end, the manufacturers are those who suffer and Tabriz’s production units will never be able to compete with foreign manufacturers, causing a sharp downfall in the shoe industry.”
