Seven imprisoned Bahai leaders
Reports from the Rajai Shahr Prison in Karaj, west of Tehran, indicate that Fariba Kamal-Abadi, one of the seven former chairs of the Iran’s Bahai Community, is ill. According to the Reporting Committee of the Human Rights Reporters’ report, she has been suffering from a flue and fever for the past week. This is while prison officials, in case of the illness of a prisoner, only transfer them to the prison quarantine without any treatment.
Fariba Kamal-Abadi and five other former chairs of the Bahai Community in Iran were detained in a coordinated raid of security forces to their homes on 14 May 2008. The seventh person, Mrs. Mahvash Sabet was detained prior to her on 5 March 2008 in Mashhad.
Each of these seven has been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment and exile to the Rajai Shahr Prison in Karaj.
