Hundreds of Iraqi lawyers and jurists condemn the suppressive Khamenei-Maliki measures against Camp Ashraf residents

Hundreds of noble and freedom seeking Iraqi lawyers and jurists, through signing a declaration, condemned the new suppressive actions of Khamenei and Maliki against Ashraf residents, the tyrannical siege and medical restrictions and their psychological torture with 180 loudspeakers.
In this declaration, which was sponsored by the Lawyers and Jurists Association of Northern Iraq, under the title of “For the Lift of the Blockade on Ashraf”, after pointing out to European Parliament Resolutions dated 24 April 2009, and 25 November 2010, and also the 17 December symposium in Washington and the 22 December International Conference in Paris, which all called on the lift of the siege on Ashraf:
We jurists, under Article 45 of the 4th Geneva Convention which clearly obligates the US in the current situation to reassume the protection of Ashraf residents immediately, have the following requests:
1. The permanent presence of US forces and UNAMI monitoring team in Ashraf to insure the protection of Ashraf residents and returning the standards of mutual conduct prior to what it was in 2009, when US forces were responsible for the protection of the camp.
2. Reaffirmation of the fact that the resident of Camp Ashraf are protected persons under the 4th Geneva Convention and must enjoy the basic rights and protections given to them which are stated in the convention. Also the inhumane 22-month-long siege imposed on them must be lifted, and all medical care and profit making activities and authorization to travel outside of the camp must be provided and granted to them, and their properties and belongings such as vehicles and trailers must be returned.
3. The pressures and psychological torture on the camp’s residents on a 24 hour basis by MOIS agents stationed at the entrance of Ashraf with the use of 140 loudspeakers must be halted.
4. With the formation of the new partnership government the suppression committee is illegal and must be annulled.
