Smuggling ring reaps profits at IRGC-affiliated University

NCRI, 14 December 2010 – At a university tied to the Iranian regime’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), a group of IRGC members are smuggling airplane security equipment, according to the Iran Khabar news agency.
The news agency cited credible sources at the university and said a number of high-ranking IRGC members have set up a smuggling ring to profit from the funds poured into the university by the mullahs’ President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. The equipment being smuggled relates to the airline industry and specifically security devices.
The regime has made huge investments at Malek Ashtar University in the air industry. The IRGC members smuggle the eavesdropping and security devices from China. They then claim that they have domestically built various technological devideces and equipment under projects funded by the regime.
In reality, with the help of other groups within the power structure, according to these reports, the IRGC ring buys the equipment from Central Asian and Chinese black markets. They then ask students at other universities to assemble different products using the smuggled equipment. Once the products have been assembled, the group provides them.
