Allawi: Iran’s meddling is a tangible reality in Iraq

In a detailed interview with Al-Arabiya TV, Dr. Ayad Allawi, former Iraqi Prime Minister and leader of the Iraqi National List, warned about the current Iraqi political crisis and said: The situation is very bad and dangerous. Even the Americans have similar feeling that Iraq is on the verge of serious threats which not only endanger Iraq, but the whole region.

He described three strategic mistakes which took place during and after the Iraqi war as “dissolution of the army and security institutions or Debaathification”, “political sectarian rationing” and” silence with respect to neighboring countries’ influences particularly the Iranian regime”.

Dr. Allawi added: Iranian meddling reached to a point that turned into a tangible reality in Iraq.

Referring to the plan of Iranian regime’s affiliated agents in Iraqi government for merging the criminal militias into the army, Allawi said: “They are now inserting the militias into the army in a strange manner. This is not acceptable. This is dangerous for Iraq. The Iranian regime has infiltrated extensively in the government’s various organs even in Iraqi Army.”

Regarding US officials’ comments as “The Maliki government’s role is more dangerous than al-Qaeda”, Dr. Ayad Allawi said: “The US position has started to change and these remarks are indicative of the situation existing in Iraq.”
