SIIC: Eliminating Iraqiya members a mistake; must be corrected and apology presented

The Iraqi daily Addustour daily reported the Supreme Islamic Iraqi Council (SIIC) announced that elimination of Iraqiya members was a mistake and it must be corrected with an apology delivered in this regard.
Jom’a al-Atvani said eliminating Iraqiya slate members was a grave mistake in the political process, must be corrected and those behind it present an apology because the crisis, due to lack of trust among political parties, was the main reason for an 8-month stall in government formation.
’If those interdicted were ruled out according to the law and the Constitution, the law therefore is above all and no official has the right to reappoint an individual into the political process after he or she is ruled out by law and the Constitution,’ al-Atvani added. ’However, if the interdict of an individual is carried out under political pretexts, an apology should be presented and of course one of these two decisions must have been a mistake.’
Addustour daily reiterated that by approving Barzani’s initiative, Iraqi MPs in fact voted to annul the interdict of four senior Iraqiya members. Another SIIC senior figure went on to explain the use of law for personal interest to eliminate others as ’dangerous’, saying this is an aggression against law and the Constitution. Therefore, certain efforts must be taken to establish trust and cooperation among various parties.
