Saudi King’s invitation a positive and honorable initiative: Allawi

Al-Sharqiya TV, 30 October 2010 – Iraqiya leader Dr. Ayad Allawi described Saudi King Abdullah’s important invitation to host a summit in Riyadh aimed at establishing a new Iraqi government as a positive and honorable initiative, describing it as a measure on behalf of the Arab League and the UN in the path of setting aside barriers in the road to establishing a national government in Iraq.
“… Of course when the ‘Servant of the Sanctuaries’ (referring to the Saudi King as the keeper of Islam’s holy sanctuaries and shrines in Saudi Arabia) has introduced such an initiative with Arab leaders and the Arab League, and maybe with a honorable action, I believe it supports Barzani’s initiative in the current negotiations between Iraqi political groups and factions to form a national government in Iraq,” Dr. Allawi said during an interview with al-Sharqiya TV.
Ayad Allawi went on to say, “We all remember when the Iranian regime called for an initiative, intending to establish the Iraqi National alliance… however this measure was solely for particular fractions. When we talk about such an honorable measure, it is an invitation to all Iraqis.”
