Iran: Resistance Units, rebellious youths mark anniversary of 1979 revolution

Reporting by PMOI/MEK

Iran, February 13, 2021—The supporters, sympathizers and members of the internal network of the Iranian opposition organized vast activities across the country in commemoration of the 42th anniversary of Iran’s 1979 anti-monarchy revolution.

The network of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK), known as the Resistance Units, expanded their anti-regime campaign in Tehran, Isfahan, Tabriz, Yazd, Zanjan, Urmia, Borujen, Bonab, Karaj, Shirvan, Kerman, Bushehr, Kermanshah, Mazandaran, Mahshahr, Sari, and Ilam.

Huge posters of the Iranian Resistance leader Massoud Rajavi and Maryam Rajavi, the President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) were installed in Tehran Tabriz, and Zanjan. “The rebels will pave the way for a new uprising,” the posters read.

The Resistance Units also distributed handwritten slogans and took to graffiti with the slogans that read, “Commemoration of February 1979 struggle for freedom,” “We must struggle a hundred times harder to take back Iran,” “Rise up to overthrow the mullahs’ regime,” “Down with the mullahs’ rule,” and “Down with Khamenei, hail to Rajavi.”

A woman in Urmia held a handwritten board that read, “Khamenei must get lost; Iran doesn’t want you.” In recent years, people target openly the regime Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, which shows their hatred and rejection of the mullahs.

Activities of Defiant youth on the 1979 anti-monarchic revolution anniversary

On Wednesday morning, February 10, 2021, on the anniversary of the 1979 anti-monarchic revolution, defiant youths in Tehran and various cities in Iran simultaneously set fire to entrances and headsign of Basij repressive centers as well as to  images of Khomeini, Khamenei, and Qassem Soleimani in 22 locations.

In addition to Tehran, these actions were carried out in the cities of Robat Karim, Mashhad, Isfahan, Ahvaz, Bandar Abbas, Hamadan, Neyshabur, Chenaran, Sabzevar, Kazerun, Masal (Gilan) and Shirvan.

These actions, aimed at breaking the atmosphere of repression, took place while the clerical regime was on full alert on the anniversary of the anti-monarchic revolution. Reports from various cities indicate widespread and popular support for defiant youths and their activities against the centers and symbols of the clerical regime’s repression. The activities also demonstrated the   resolve and determination of the rebellious youth to overthrow the ruling criminal regime in its entirety.

Background

In the final years of the 1970s, a series of escalating nationwide protests started chipping away at the power of the Shah regime, which previously exuded absolute control over the country. The regime started to yield under the pressure of the demonstrators, who demanded political freedoms and the release of political prisoners.

But because the leaders of the revolution were in prison and there was no organized alternative to the regime, at the time, Ruhollah Khomeini hijacked Iran’s revolution. After assuming power, Khomeini’s regime continued to sink the country in a merciless religious dictatorship that spared no one.

However, for the people of Iran, their revolution is not dead and is still a fire under the ashes and nationwide anti-regime protests in recent years proved the explosive state of Iran’s society. Therefore, the brave activities of the Resistance Units, who act under sever repression, pave the way for a new revolution that will lead the country into freedom and democracy.

In the last two years the MEK has extensively expanded its network inside Iran and has become a source of motivation for the young and rebellious generation of Iran that showed heroism during the November 2019 nationwide protests, in which 1,500 protesters were killed by the security forces.
