Italian magazine: Iran intel agents spying on dissidents

Iran, July 5, 2019 – In a report about the activities of Iran’s Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS) in Italy, the Italian magazine OFCS Report wrote, “As tensions escalate between the Iranian regime and western countries, we shouldn’t underestimate the activities of the MOIS.”

While referring to the presence of MOIS agents in Italy posing as journalists and merchants, and the regime's use of Italian nationals, the report adds, “The mission of MOIS agents is to identify Iranian dissidents and steal information about nuclear technology. The regime's main operation area is the Italian capital, yet its agents have also been spotted in the cities of Torino, Milan, Genova, Florence, and Napoli.”

OFCS Report also mentioned that the MOIS agents’ activities in Italy began back in the 1980s, but their importance wasn't revealed until 1993, after the assassination of Mohammad Hossain Naghdi, representative of the Iranian opposition coalition National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) in Italy, by MOIS agents.

In the past year, the activities of the MOIS have escalated in Europe, especially against the Iranian opposition. The regime's intelligence agents mostly use its diplomatic facilities in European countries to conduct espionage and terrorist activities against the NCRI and MEK.

In 2018, a Vienna-based Iranian intelligence agent that worked as a diplomat was arrested by Belgium authorities after he tried to bomb the annual gathering of the Iranian resistance.

The Iranian Resistance has called on the international community to designate the MOIS as a terrorist entity and to close Tehran’s embassies as the main channels for conducting terrorist activities.
