The Iranian regime shows fear of potential protests on Cyrus The Great Day

Reported by PMOI/MEK

Iran, Oct. 29, 2018 – Fearing protests on October 29, where Iranians commemorate Cyrus the Great, the ancient king of Persia, the Iranian regime dispatched security forces and took measures to prevent the people from celebrating the event.

In many cities, security forces are patrolling the streets and have set up checkpoints to prevent any sort of gathering from taking place.

According to reports, videos and pictures obtained from Shiraz, security forces have occupied the Chamron highway and have set up a military checkpoint at every 100 meters.

In Shiraz’s Namazi Square, Special Forces have taken up a post along with 20 motor patrol units. In other parts of the city, police forces and patrols are circulating to intimidate and suppress any possible attempts for gatherings. Shiraz is located in Fars province, not very far from Pasargad, where the tomb of Cyrus resides.

Fars province has been among the hotbeds of protests since nationwide uprisings erupted in December. In May, protests in the city of Kazerun, Shiraz, turned into clashes between protesters and government forces for several days.

The Iranian regime is afraid of similar protests erupting in the province, especially on national celebrations, which have historically been a flashpoint between the Iranian people and the religious dictatorship ruling the country.

According to reports from Shahr-e Kord, the Iranian regime has closed down the tomb of Sardar Asaad Bakhtiari to prevent the people from holding the Cyrus Day ceremony there.

There’s also tension in Tehran’s Vali Asr Square, where police vehicles have been dispatched with rotating lights and are blaring their sirens periodically. According to reports from social media networks, the metro station next to Tehran’s Park-e Daneshju has been closed down.
