Reporting by PMOI/MEK
Berlin, September 8, 2019—Freedom-loving Iranians and supporters of the Iranian opposition group People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) in Berlin rallied outside the city municipality on Friday, September 6, protesting a visit by the mayor of Tehran and his delegation.
Following this demonstration, the entrance of the Iranian regime's delegation to the Berlin municipality was disrupted, forcing them to enter the building through the backdoor and the garage in a humiliating manner.
On Friday, head of the Berlin provincial premier's office said they will not layout a red carpet for Tehran's mayor Pirouz Hanachi and he will not be permitted to sign Berlin's famous golden book.
Furthermore, various factions of the Berlin provincial parliament expressed their protests to Berlin Mayor Michael Müller for accepting the Iranian regime's delegation and Tehran's mayor.
Burkhard Dreger, head of the Christian Democratic faction in the Berlin parliament, described this invitation as unacceptable and demanded its cancellation.
Kai Wegner, General Secretary of the Christian Democratic Union in Berlin, said not only should Müller refuse to appear in any photo with Tehran's mayor, in fact the entire meeting should be cancelled.
U.S. Ambassador in Berlin Richard Grenell said Tehran's mayor belongs in the U.S. and European sanctions lists, not in the special guest district of Berlin.
The Iranian community's rally was covered by Berlin's TV news network. Furthermore, Germany's DPA news agency wired a report and a number of images of the rally. "Iranians held a protest rally outside the municipality in Berlin. Javad Dabiran (a member of the Iranian opposition coalition National Council of Resistance of Iran – NCRI) emphasized this meeting should not justify a cruel government."
Berlin's BZ newspaper published an image of the PMOI/MEK supporters' demonstration outside the Berlin municipality against the Iranian regime's delegation, describing it as such: "Supporters of the Iranian opposition movement PMOI/MEK rallying outside the municipality against a visit by Tehran's mayor."
Other German outlets including the Die Welt newspaper, the official Berlin capital website, the Berlin TV website, the Head Topics website and the Berliner Morgenpost published reports of the Iranians' protests and demonstrations in Berlin.
