French authorities said the suspected attack plot was targeting a rally near Paris attended by US politicians.

Asdollah Assadi, 47, is an Iranian diplomat at Tehran’s embassy in Vienna, according to the Brussels prosecutor’s office, and will be transferred to Belgium following his recent arrest in Germany.

This individual was arrested on Sunday night (July 1) at a resting area on the A3 highway in Bavaria near the city of Aschaffenburg. This arrest is in relation to two other cases of arrests in Belgium and France.

An Iranian-Belgian couple were arrested in Belgium and another individual in Paris. They are all facing charges of intending to bomb the Iranian opposition convention held in Paris on Saturday, June 30th.

Assadi is being transferred to Brussels based on a request placed by Belgian judiciary officials, the Bamberg prosecutor’s public relations office said in response to written questions sent by Deutsche Welle Persian.

Assadi is in the custody of German police while a European arrest warrant has been issued for him, making the subject all the more sensitive and damning for the Iranian regime, especially with regime President Hassan Rouhani scheduled to visit Vienna on Wednesday.

Vienna is calling on Tehran to revoke diplomatic status for Assadi, according to media outlets citing Austrian foreign ministry officials. Austria, however, enjoys the authority to take such action on its own and has said these measures will be taken within 48 hours.

Lifting or not lifting his diplomatic status remains an irrelevant issue, considering the fact that Assadi is not accredited as a diplomat in Germany. As a result, he enjoys no immunity while in the custody of authorities outside of Austria.

There is no word yet of extradition requests for Assadi.

This latest string of developments has raised increasing attention to the importance of the Iranian opposition coalition National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), and its cornerstone member, being the People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) for the Iranian regime.

It is also becoming apparent that Madam Maryam Rajavi and the NCRI pose a realistic alternative to this homicidal regime. Nothing could be worse for these misogynists than a movement seen as replacing them headed by a heroic woman,” according to a statement issued in this regard by Mayor Rudy Giuliani, an advisor, and lawyer to U.S. President Donald Trump.
