The London-based Al-Arab daily published an article titled, “The Mullahs’ Regime Will be Toppled By The Iranian People And Resistance.”

In this article Dr. Sanabargh Zahedi, Chair of the Iranian opposition National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) Judiciary Commission, described the status quo in Iran as a powder keg, reiterating the reports received from PMOI/MEK resistance units.

“Around 529 protests by people from all walks of life and in more than 103 cities were registered in December alone. This is equal to around 17 protest rallies each day,” the article reads.

“Following the U.S. withdrawal from the Iran nuclear deal, the U.S. government relaunched economic sanctions to confront the Iranian regime. However, Zahedi emphasizes that to weaken the regime one cannot only invest on the consequences of sanctions. The main element for change in Iran are the people and the Iranian Resistance, and anything else will be considered supplementary factors in this equation, he explained.

Many western companies rushed to Tehran following the 2015 nuclear deal and the Iranian regime’s oil exports increased from 1 million to 2.5 million barrels per day. Furthermore, this deal allowed the release of $150 billion in frozen assets to the regime of Tehran. However, this large amount of money did not render any improvement in the Iranian people’s lives. In fact, quite the opposite. The number of Iranians living in poverty has skyrocketed to over 40 million, meaning more than half the country. Moreover, unemployment and the prices of ordinary goods are increasing at an alarming rate… The reason is clear: The money obtained by the mullahs’ regime were used to export war in Syria, Yemen and Iraq, parallel to supporting the Lebanese Hezbollah and the Houthis of Yemen, or used to develop its missile and nuclear projects. Also, this money was poured into bank accounts related to the mullahs and the IRGC.

This NCRI official believes protests in Iran prove this regime is gradually losing control and recent rallies are emerging on previous protests and demonstrations. In this regard, Zahedi reiterated the events December 2009 uprising during which millions of people in Tehran took to the streets, taking control of various parts of the capital, pushing the regime to the verge of losing control of Tehran.
