Iran: Protesters killed by security forces honored across the country

Reporting by PMOI/MEK

Iran, October 31, 2020—During major protests that erupted in November 2019, Iranian security forces gunned down and killed 1,500 civilians. As the anniversary of the uprising approaches, many Iranians are celebrating this turning point in the country’s history by honoring the martyrs who laid down their lives for the cause of freedom. In recent days, those who lost family and friends in the protests have been ceremonies in honor of their loved ones in different cities. These ceremonies are met with widespread support and sympathy by many Iranians who share in their grief and their desire to live in freedom.

In the same vein, Resistance Units, the internal network of the Iranian opposition movement the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK), have been organizing widespread activities across the country in honor of martyrs of the November protests and in a pledge to continue the struggle for freedom.

The Resistance Units posted and distributed images of the November 2019 martyrs on cars, walls, benches, and public places, reading in part “Honoring martyrs of the November 2019 nationwide uprising.”

In Tehran, Isfahan, and Mashhad, the Resistance Units installed posters of Iranian Resistance leader Massoud Rajavi and President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) Maryam Rajavi with the slogans, “The Nov. 2019 uprising proved that the only way to achieve freedom is fighting against the mullahs.”

The MEK Resistance Units are groups of Iranian activists who have revolted against the current regime. They are small cells of resistance of the Iranian opposition movement, working together to play a leading role in Iran’s protests and had a major impact on organizing protests across the country. This idea is rooted in the Iranian Resistance’s long-held belief that any change in Iran must come from within and by the Iranian people themselves.

On Tuesday, October 27, the state-run daily Resalat acknowledge the role of MEK Resistance Units in organizing and leading the protests in November 2019 and warned for a “series of widespread revolts.”

“In many of the [MEK] ‘Resistance’ and ‘Protest’ units, notable people were present. The November sedition was not extinguished at the same point. It was the beginning of a series of widespread revolts and the eventual disabling of the security, intelligence, and law enforcement agencies to create deep instability and insecurity inside Iran,” wrote Resalat.

Since November 2019 protests, the MEK Resistance Units have expanded their activities. In recent days, the Resistance Units organized other activities in Tehran, Mashhad, Isfahan, Karaj, Rasht, Rudsar, Ardakan, Neyshabur, Homayunshahr, Zanjan, Aligudarz, Lahijan, Qazvin, Ahvaz, Saqqez, and Varamin.

Their slogans read:

“Down with Khamenei, viva Rajavi”

“Down with the tyranny”

“Down with Khamenei, Viva MEK/PMOI”

“We didn’t sacrifice 1500 souls in the Nov 2019 uprising to live in collusion with Ali Khamenei…”

“Mullahs have some shame and let go of our country”

“November 15, the day on which Iran’s uprising started, is a national, lasting, and eternal day”

“Mullahs be afraid; a revolt and uprising is approaching”

“The State Security Forces (SSF) must be disbanded”

“Rise up to overthrow the regime of the Supreme Leader”

“Maryam Rajavi is the symbol of a free Iran”

Also, in response to the regime’s propaganda campaign with fake slogans organized by agents of the Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS) during the protests, the MEK Resistance Units further spread the slogans that the Iranian people have been chanting during the nationwide protests, including: “Down with dictators, be it the Shah or the Supreme Leader,” “No to the mullah and no to the Shah,” and “Neither mullahs nor the Pahlavi dynasty, peace be upon Mosaddegh [who fought both]”.

In their activities, the Resistance Units also honored martyrs of rocket attacks against MEK members in Camp Liberty on October 29, 2015, which marked its fifth anniversary this week. In what became the heaviest rocket attack against Iranian opposition members in Iraq, Tehran’s proxy militias fired over 80 rockets at the Camp to eliminate its main opposition movement. During the attack 24 MEK members were killed and hundreds were wounded.

The Resistance Units took to graffiti in Mashhad, Rasht, and other cities and distributed handwritten slogans reading in part, “The anniversary of the missile attack on Camp Liberty, PMOI/MEK camp in Iraq in 2015” and “Viva PMOI/MEK martyrs fallen on October 29, 2015.”

Public outrage toward the regime’s financial institutions

Also, on Friday, October 30, the defiant and rebellious youths targeted the regime’s so-called Martyrs Foundation in Isfahan. Martyrs Foundation is one of several institutions that plunder Iran’s wealth to fund regime affiliated terrorist proxies in the Middle East instead of helping the people, 80 percent of whom are living under the poverty line. These acts show the outrage of Iranian society toward the regime’s leader and suppressive centers, but also people’s readiness to overthrow the clerical regime ruling Iran for 40 years.
