Iran, January 14, 2021—Workers of the National Industrial Steel Group in the city of Ahvaz, Khuzestan province, held a rally on Monday, January 11protesting the formation of the Islamic Labor Council, a body that pursues the regime’s interests in different labor communities across the country.
The workers issued a statement saying: "The Islamic Labor Council, this nest of corruption and conspiracy against workers, has no place in this company."
These workers are also seeking the formation of an independent workers’ union.
The workers rallied on Monday, chanting slogans and disrupting the formation of the Islamic Labor Council, which was taking place in the mosque of the factory.
Workers in District 2 municipality in the city of Khorramabad, western Iran protest unpaid wages
On Tuesday, January 12, a group of District 2 municipality workers in the city of Khorramabad, western Iran, gathered in front of the local municipality building, protesting officials’ refusal to deliver their paychecks for several months and giving hollow promises.
These 50 workers who work for a contractor have not been paid for eight months.
“In addition to paycheck delays, the officials delay paying our insurance premiums paid to the Social Security, while a 7% share of the premiums is deducted from workers' salaries,” said a protesting worker.
Medical staff in gathered in the city of Tabriz, northwest of Iran, demanding a change in their living conditions
Private sector employees working in medical centers of East Azarbaijan province in northwest Iran held a protest rally in front of the governor's office on Monday, demanding that the governor address their problems.
In this regard, one of the nurses said: "Most of the burden of the Covid-19 outbreak is on the shoulders of medical staff, especially nurses. The medical staff, whom the media described as ‘front line warriors’ and ‘white-clad angels’ at the beginning of the outbreak have not been paid for months in many parts of the country."
They chanted slogans demanding raises on their salaries and special nursing bonus, timely payment of wages and improve their working conditions.

Despite the dangerous Covid-19 situation and cold weather in different cities, many of people were seen standing in line for hours to buy vegetable shortening in different Iranian cities.
Despite these conditions in many provinces of the country, the regime's deputy for trade affairs in South Khorasan said in a January 13 interview with the Tasnim news agency, an outlet linked to the regime’s Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) Quds Force: "The problem is the shortage of cooking oil, which is related to the whole country and not only to South Khorasan province."
