PMOI/MEK, 5 May 2018 -- Farmers in an area south of the city of Isfahan took measures to stop the flow from a local river by the authorities, protesting the transfer of water from agricultural lands to steel industry complexes and ceramic tile factories.

The farmers were confronted by security forces and the incident subsequently resulted in mild clashes.

For three months, disadvantaged farmers east of Isfahan have been protesting the lack of irrigation water necessary for their lands. Authorities have responded with heavy hands resorting to suppression, assaults and night raids targeting their homes, and the eventual arbitrary arrests.
