August 19, 2019—Renowned Iraqi writer and journalist Safi al-Yaseri, a close and loyal friend of Ashraf and its residents who wrote hundreds of articles and four books about Ashraf and members of the Iranian opposition group People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK), passed away on Saturday, August 17, in a hospital in Turkey at the age of 72.

Iranian opposition President Maryam Rajavi, head of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), sent a message expressing her condolences to the people and writers of Iraq and Arab World. Despite all the pressures and threats from the mullahs’ regime in Iraq, Safi al-Yaseri never backed down and was never willing to give up his fight against religious fascism. He was loyal to his cause and was a very vivid example of perseverance, Mrs. Rajavi added.

As Iranian Resistance leader Massoud Rajavi has said, Safi al-Yaseri endured enormous pressures, sufferings, living in exile and constantly being hunted by the those supporting the mullahs' regime in Iran. But Safi al-Yaseri remained loyal in the struggle for freedom, his country’s independence and taking a stance against the mullahs’ regime.

He finished his studies in the University of Baghdad and began working as a journalist following the occupation of Iraq.

Being the target of numerous terrorist plots of the Iranian regime’s Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) Quds Force in Iraq, he was forced to leave his country and live as a writer in exile in Lebanon and then Turkey.

He had first visited Ashraf in the spring of 2003 to meet the PMOI/MEK in person. During his numerous visits to Ashraf, he became very fond of the PMOI’s cause and their values. He then started to investigate about the wide array of conspiracies and demonizing propaganda against the PMOI. Through this process, he wrote a book titled, “The PMOI and Iraq,” explaining the PMOI’s political and financial independence. Following a thorough investigation in cities and towns across Iraqi Kurdistan, Yaseri was further able to debunk lies spread by the mullahs’ regime about the PMOI.

In another book titled “Democratic Islam,” he evaluated the PMOI’s ideological principles and study of Islam based on the PMOI’s teachings. His next book was “The Iranian woman in search of freedom,” describing the struggle of the PMOI’s women members in the prisons of the inhumane mullahs’ regime.

The fourth book of this prestigious writer was titled “The Devil’s Lies” consisting of a 790-page study with a large volume of documents and evidence debunking the mullahs’ allegations and massive demonization against the PMOI. He also wrote hundreds of articles about the PMOI, their just cause and rightful role in the struggle to establish freedom and democracy in Iran.
