Internal disputes and government corruption are intensifying the Covid-19 crisis in Iran.

“Health is the country’s main pillar… However, some people think other issues are of more priority. Everyone has done their best to unify the efforts and voices into containing coronavirus as soon as possible,” said Health Minister Saied Namaki on Wednesday. Regarding the “one billion euros from the treasury” approved by the regime’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei on April 6, Namaki emphasized that his ministry has only received 30 percent of this sum and most of it was spent on decreasing the hospitals’ incomes… Afterwards we have not received any more money,” he added.

“Thirty to forty percent of the country’s capacity has been used to manage the novel coronavirus crisis. Of course, in the frontlines more than 100 percent of the medical staff and nurses have been used. However, all the country’s resources for this management and the necessary resources to protect the people’s wealth have not been used,” said Mostafa Moien, head of the regime’s Supreme Medical Council on Wednesday. “There are many threats, such as behind-the-curtain measures, and hiding the truth due to political, economic and ideological reservations. We must not keep a lid on the date when Covid-19 entered the country. We must follow science and not make decisions against science when it comes to college entrance exams, religious ceremonies and other matters… If I had any authority, I would not allow college entrance exams, nor any ceremonies or mourning rituals to be held. This mentality is moral and humane. We haven’t been able to implement hygiene protocols in a bakery line where there is not even ten people. How are we supposed to control millions of people [in this month’s annual religious ceremonies]? The consequences will be drastic; disappointment, chaos and insecurity… If we wait to head towards herd immunity measures and witness 70 percent of the society be contaminated with the virus, it will be a grave mistake because for one thing all the hospitals will be full and on the other hand, the number of casualties will be catastrophic,” he explained, according to the regime’s official IRNA news agency.

After many days of discussions, the mullahs’ regime refused to delay university entrance exams in line with its policy of killing people by Covid-19. This is while on August 10, news reports indicated a one-month delay of university entrance exams by the Health Ministry and some members of parliament.

“The university entrance exam will be held on from 19th to 22nd of August,” according to IRNA citing the regime’s health and sciences ministers.

On the other hand, in line with same policy and after many paradoxes, regime President Hassan Rouhani announced: “Mourning ceremonies of the month of Muharram will be held… we need this spirituality.”

Iraj Harirchi, the deputy health minister, announced the deaths of four doctors and a nurse on August 8, according to Shabakeyeh Khabar news network. “They were all senior-level specialists,” Harirchi said.

The spokesperson of the health ministry in Isfahan confirmed that in the past six weeks, the province has seen a 25-percent increase in the number of cases and hospitalized patients, the official IRNA news agency reported. “Currently, 11 counties in this province are in code-red conditions and five counties are in alarming conditions. In densely populated and commuted counties such as Isfahan, Khomeini Shahr, Najaf Abad, Sahreza, Lenjan, Falaverjan, Mobarakeh, and Shahin Shahr, the situation of the disease is more fragile and sensitive,” the spokesperson said.

The dean of Ilam Medical Sciences University said, “The data for the past 48 hours show that the situation has shifted from alarming to red.” The dean also added that the trend of Covid-19 contagion and deaths is unpredictable, according to Fars News Agency, affiliated with the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC).

The treatment deputy of Shiraz Medical Sciences University reported 11 more coronavirus deaths on Tuesday, Mehr News Agency, affiliated with the Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS), reported. “There are currently 936 hospitalized patients in the province who are suspicious of having coronavirus or have coronavirus symptoms, and 106 of them are in critical conditions,” the health official said.

The provincial governor of Semnan confirmed that the spread of the virus has intensified in the past weeks, according to Fars. “We need special measures to prevent the spread from becoming worse during the months of Muharram and Safar. If we don’t take the spread of the coronavirus seriously, we will have to face more casualties and cases in the near future,” the governor said.
