“You can’t deny the fact that in some case we can’t say everything in public and this is due to the country’s economic characteristics,” said Deputy Health Minister Iraj Harirchi on Tuesday in an interview with state TV.

“With the winter starting we are also concerned about an influenza wave, and we have yet to contain the first Covid-19 wave and are facing a second wave that is coupled with influenza. During the past six months we have not been able to recover our medical system. We must see how successful countries that are very much like us were able to overcome this, to realize what we have to do. There is a fixed example across the globe and successful countries, and we need to use those measures,” said Alireza Naji, head of the Virus Detection Research Center on Tuesday, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

“To this day more than 100 employees of our bank network have lost their lives to Covid-19. Thousands of people have been contaminated with the novel coronavirus in banks. Therefore, further delay in implementing the check law and electronically checking will cost more people’s lives,” said Hossein Ali Haji-Deligani, a member of the Majlis presidium, on Tuesday, according to the Mizan news agency.

“Until we have permanently evolved the current crisis into a persistent and continuous period of control, any decisions to reopen schools and universities will be hasty and can place more people in danger,” said Alireza Zali, head of the Tehran Covid-19 Task Force, on Tuesday. “Even if the number of new cases decrease by the end of the summer, there are no guarantees that we will not witness a different face of Covid-19 during the fall season. Most of the schools lack basic infrastructures and even a single restroom. All schools are not just the schools of Tehran’s First District. In southern Tehran many of the schools are below minimum hygiene standards. The student population in these facilities are very high and they have more economic problems. Six months have passed since the Covid-19 epidemic began and the number of medical specialists and nurses were less than what is needed in normal circumstances. Even if there was no coronavirus, our medical teams were already working under extreme pressure. After Covid-19, this workload has increased extensively. A large number of our colleagues have not received their paychecks for months now and many lack the necessary motivation due to their low wages,” he added, according to IRNA.

“A total of 559 new cases in the past 24 hours were hospitalized across Tehran province, of which more than 1098 were in ICUs. 17.8 percent of all the people seeking medical treatment are in need to be hospitalized in ICUs. We are concerned of witnessing a rise in such cases in the coming weeks. Evaluating the status quo is quite difficult right now,” Zali said on Monday to the Tasnim news agency, an outlet linked to the regime’s Revolutionary Guards  (IRGC) Quds Force.

In Razavi Khorasan province, head of the Neyshabur Medical Sciences University said the number of this city’s Covid-19 victims are around 600. “407 positive cases have died, and 190 positive cases and the rest were clinical symptoms. In June we had 56 deaths, 83 in July and 78 by August 9… If our hospitals reach their maximum capacity, we will no longer have nurses and medical staffs. Currently we are facing shortages in medicine and Covid-19 testing kits,” he said on Tuesday, according to IRNA.

In Kerman, the spokesperson of the Medical Sciences University said on Tuesday that 15 people had died of Covid-19 in the past 24-hour period, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

A large number of inmates, including political prisoners in different facilities, including Evin, the Greater Tehran Penitentiary Center (Fashafuyeh) and Urmia prisons are suffering from Covid-19, and thousands of inmates are in danger.

Iranian opposition President Maryam Rajavi, head of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), reiterated that the mullahs’ regime cannot provide for and guarantee health protocols and necessities in the country’s prisons. Madam Rajavi once again called for urgent action by the United Nations to stop the ongoing catastrophe in Iran’s prisons and force the mullahs’ regime to at least temporary release the prisoners, especially political prisoners, until the end of this pandemic.
