Reporting by PMOI/MEK

Iran, July 11, 2020—Over 69,300 people have died of the novel coronavirus in 342 cities checkered across all of Iran’s 31 provinces, according to reports tallied by the Iranian opposition People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) as of Saturday afternoon local time, July 11. Reports from the Greater Tehran Prison (Fashafuyeh) indicate the novel coronavirus in this facility is resulting in a humanitarian catastrophe. Regime officials, however, refuse to even temporarily release the inmates despite the threat.

While the scope of COVID-19 increases with each passing day and Iran’s number of cases rise endlessly, regime President Hassan Rouhani is literally warning of corona-phobia. “If we create anxiety and fear among the population, in a manner that will trouble necessary social and economic activities alongside basic services,” it would be a wrong path to take.

While Iran’s physicians and nurses, and even the regime’s Health Minister are constantly complaining about the shortage in beds, medical equipment and supplies, Rouhani literally claimed Iran is in far better circumstances in comparison to other countries. “The Central Bank has been able to provide for the Health Ministry’s necessary needs, dollars and euros, and provide credit for them to place orders and purchase their goods. This calm (!) that you are witnessing is because domestic production is providing what we need; masks, sanitizing substances, gloves, N95 masks and ventilators,” he claimed.

“In the first two months of virus, the COVID-19 deaths in Tehran were around 100 to 120 in the first days,” said Tehran City Council chief Mohsen Rafsanjani on Saturday. “In June it was made clear that we became overconfident very soon and this came back to hurt us. Therefore, we must return and correct our mistakes. The country’s health officials should point these out and the National COVID-19 Task Force should listen and make decisions… In a new COVID-19 peak one can place 30 percent of the blame on the people and the government’s share is 70 percent because they suddenly relaxed their decisions regarding the novel coronavirus,” he added.

Nader Tavakoli, the treatment deputy of Tehran’s Coronavirus Task Force, said, “In the current situation, Tehran is in code-red conditions and the limits of the treatment facilities is being tested… Imam Sajjad hospital in Shahriar, Hazrat-e Fatemeh hospital in Robat Karim, Shohadaye Gomnam hospital in Pakdasht, Mofateh hospital in Varamin, and Imam Hossein hospital in Baharestan are completely filled with coronavirus patients… In Tehran province, in the jurisdiction of three Tehran, Beheshti, and Iran medical sciences universities, we have a total of 180-200 hospitals, more than 100 of which are treating coronavirus patients.” (Source: Fars News Agency, July 11)

In Mazandaran, northern Iran, based on numbers released by the Mazandaran & Babol Medical Sciences University, the number of COVID-19 cases in this province has escalated from 300 per day to 1,000 per day in the past ten days, according to the regime’s official IRNA news agency on Saturday.

In Ardabil, northwest Iran, the caretaker dean of the Medical Sciences University said on Friday that the province has entered the second peak, according to the Mehr news agency, linked to the regime’s Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS).
