While local officials in various provinces are reporting severe shortages in medical personnel and the healthcare system falling apart, Iranian regime President Hassan Rouhani continued his preposterous remarks today. “Our health and medical treatment were so active that the circumstances our armed forces had prepared for never came up. During this period while our medical system was working, they were also adding hospitals and beds… 1,500 special beds have been added during these five or six months that we have been faced with this virus. As we move forward, the number of beds, ventilators, ICU beds and other equipment and supplies, including medicine, will be added. Each line there will be an average of two medicine production lines added,” he claimed on Saturday.

Masoud Mardani, a member of the National COVID-19 Task Force, explained the epidemiologic objectives of serology tests. “These tests were carried out in random and we realized that 18 million Iranians, meaning around 20 percent of the country’s population, have contracted the novel coronavirus,” he said on Saturday, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

“An evaluation of the stats presented by the Health Ministry show that during the past 10 days, an average of 106 people per hour are contracting COVID-19 across Iran and around six people lose their lives to this virus,” according to a Friday piece published in the Hamshahri daily.

“In the past 24 hours, five COVID-19 patients have died in the city of Mahabad,” said the head of the West Azerbaijan Medical Sciences University on Friday. “During the past day and night 188 individuals have been hospitalized in hospitals across the province with chronic breathing disorders, of which ten have lost their lives… If this trend continues, our circumstances will be far worse,” he added, according to the Javan daily, a newspaper affiliated to the regime’s Revolutionary Guards (IRGC).

In Ilam province, IRNA news agency reported on July 4: “From June 21 to July 1, the number of coronavirus cases has doubled, the number of deaths… has increased dramatically. According to the statement made by the provincial governor, 90 percent of the province’s population is in the coronavirus red zone and 11 counties are in code-red conditions.”

In Khuzestan province, eyewitnesses reported that on Friday, 10 people in Ahvaz’s Padashahr district and 15 people in the Zeytoun district died of coronavirus. Ahvaz’s Razi hospital is filled with coronavirus patients and there’s no room to admit more patients. Tasnim News Agency quoted the caretaker of Ahvaz Medical Sciences University as saying, “The province’s red cities have increased from nine to 12.”

In Qom, eyewitnesses reported that on Friday, five people died of coronavirus in one of the districts of the city.

In Fars province, the dean of the medical sciences university of Larestan confirmed that the spread of the virus has accelerated in the counties of Larestan, Khenj, and Avez, IRNA reported. The dean also confirmed that hospital beds are fast being filled in many counties and said, “In Larestan, we’ve been forced to allocate the children’s ICU section to coronavirus patients.”

In Kohgiluyeh and Boyer Ahmad, the deputy dean of Yasuj Medical Sciences University said, “Given the growing trend of coronavirus cases and the increase of the number of hospitalized patients in Kohgiluyeh and Boyer Ahmad, especially in Gachsaran county, July is going to be a very difficult month for the people of the province.” (Source: IRNA, July 4)

In Kermanshah province, ISNA quoted the governor as saying, “It is worrying that 12 counties in Kermanshah are in code-red situation.”

In Zanjan province, the deputy dean of the medical sciences university of Zanjan said that 85 percent of the province’s population is potentially contaminated, IRNA reported. “The number of hospitalized coronavirus patients has dramatically increased and the continuation of this trend is a sign of warning for the province,” the dean said.

In Kurdistan, the deputy governor referred to the red situation of coronavirus in Sanandaj, Qarveh, Dehgolan, Marivan, and Biraj and declared that restrictions have been imposed across the province, Mehr News Agency reported on Saturday.

The state-run Hamdeli newspaper wrote on Saturday: “While the number of COVID-19 cases is increasing and the number of daily deaths has not decreased in comparison to the first day of the outbreak… the government has done nothing but make a few recommendations to the people and make masks mandatory, or deferred privileges to local authorities.”

On Saturday, state-run TV declared that coronavirus restrictions will return to public places starting from Sunday, July 5, and confessed: “The threat has crossed the line of warning.”
