Iran coronavirus update: Over 51,500 deaths, all Khuzestan hospitals allocated to COVID-19

Reporting by PMOI/MEK

Iran, June 13, 2020—Over 51,500 people have died of the novel coronavirus in 332 cities checkered across all of Iran’s 31 provinces, according to reports tallied by the Iranian opposition People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) as of Saturday afternoon local time, June 13. The official death count declared by the regime stands at 8,730, around a sixth of the actual figure.

The death toll in various provinces include: 10,690 in Tehran, 4,185 in Khuzestan, 3,205 in Razavi Khorasan, 1,915 in Sistan & Baluchistan, 1,425 in West Azerbaijan, 1,045 in Kurdistan, and 1,740 in Lorestan. This is in addition to reports obtained from other provinces.

“We are in the first peak. The first peak has come and gone in some of the provinces… we are forecasting that other provinces will experience similar conditions… Other than a few cities, we have not reached a point where 60 to 65 percent of the population have surpassed the virus. This means that right now we neither have a vaccine nor is there any collective safety. As a result, our concerns remain and we need to remain careful,” said regime President Hassan Rouhani on Saturday during a session of the regime’s COVID-19 Task Force.

Despite his daily lies, Rouhani acknowledged the regime’s shortages in medical equipment and supplies. “Across the globe and even in advanced countries there are shortages in hospital beds, ICUs, and other assets. There are also shortages in physicians and nurses. We need to take these shortages into consideration because any province that enters its peak needs to surpass this period gradually and not experience a high peak that will result in concerns and problems for everyone,” he added.

“Back in April and May people were abiding hygiene protocols by 80 percent. However, in early June it reached 20 percent,” Rouhani said deceptively with the intention of placing blame on the Iranian people. “If there is no cooperation, we will be forced to reimpose all the restrictions,” Rouhani said to claim the regime actually cares about the Iranian people.

“Five percent of the people who sought medical care in the past 24 hours have been hospitalized. Prior to this these stats were around 3.5 percent,” said Tehran COVID-19 Task Force chief Alireza Zali on Saturday, according to the state-run Eghtesad24 outlet.

ISNA quoted the dean of Kurdistan Medical Sciences University as saying, “On Thursday, the capacity of the Towhid hospital was full. This shows that coronavirus has exploded in the city of Sanandaj and in Kurdistan province.”

The dean of Kermanshah Medical Sciences University said, “The number of hospitalized patients in the past two weeks has increased by a factor of 5.2,” as reported by IRIB, the regime’s main broadcaster. The same outlet quoted the governor of Kermanshah province as saying, “After Khuzestan, our province has the highest growth in the number of cases. This is an alarm bell for us, and we must pay a heavy price.”

IRNA quoted the deputy governor of Eastern Azerbaijan province as saying, “The increasing number of hospitalized and critical-condition patients since last week is worrying and if the situation continues, we’ll have no other choice but to reimpose social and economic restrictions.” The dean of Maragheh Medical Sciences University said, “In the past two weeks, the number of coronavirus patients in this county has been increasing at a growing rate and this is a serious warning.”

In Hormozgan, the president of Bandar Abbas Education and Treatment Complex said, “The growing number of coronavirus cases has caused a crisis for the healthcare system. We need more special beds… the number of cases is growing with a steep incline and has resulted in the death of several people in the province. Some of them didn’t have any prior health conditions and this is a serious warning.”
