“We are extremely concerned because at a relatively high percentage we are reaching the horizontal status [between two waves] at a higher rate in comparison to the period between the second and third waves, and even higher than the period between the third and fourth wave. Therefore, as we saw that even before the fourth wave had ended, we began entering the fifth wave. We are now concerned that while we are still in the fifth wave, we will be also experiencing the sixth wave,” said the head of Iran’s Health Ministry Vaccination Committee on Sunday, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

“Due to Covid-19, the number of cases and the death toll of tuberculosis has increased across the country. Currently we are nearing the winter season and since students have returned to schools and universities, coronavirus will be spreading, and the sixth wave is near,” said Mehdi Guya, head of the Health Ministry’s Disease Management Center on Sunday, according to the state-run Hamdeli newspaper.

“We have yet to surpass the fifth wave because still the number of patients and the death toll remains higher than the previous peaks, and we are still in the wave of this illness. From six days ago once again the number of patients entering our hospitals and the number of those being hospitalized have increased,” said a senior official of Tehran’s Loghman Hosital on Sunday, according to ISNA.

“During the past 24 hours we have identified and hospitalized 666 new coronavirus cases across [West Azerbaijan] province, and 22 people have lost their lives during this period,” said the dean of West Azerbaijan Medical Sciences University on Sunday, according to the Tasnim news agency, an outlet linked to the regime’s Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) Quds Force.

“The increasing number of people seeking medical care in our 16-hour medical centers in some cities across [Fars] province tells us that the sixth wave is beginning in this province,” said the dean of Shiraz Medical Sciences University on Sunday, according to ISNA.

“Vaccination in Razavi Khorasan province has reached 67 percent and only 27 percent have received two doses. There is a long way to reach the 70 percent mark. The next wave is certain,” said deputy dean of Mashhad Medical Sciences University on Sunday, according to the state-run Shahr-e Ara News outlet.

“The sixth wave is near, and we may witness an increase in the number of people being hospitalized in the coming days,” said the head of Razavi Khorasan Covid-19 Task Force on Sunday, according to the regime’s official IRIB news agency.

The Isfahan and Kashan Medical Sciences universities reported on Sunday 326 new patients hospitalized and 23 deaths in the past 24 hours. Isfahan province currently has 1904 patients hospitalized, of which 325 are in ICUs.

“During the past 24 hours 166 coronavirus patients were hospitalized and the total number stands at 824 in Kermanshah province, of which 172 are in ICUs and 30 are in dire conditions. 309 people were temporarily hospitalized and received Remdesivir,” according to a report issued on Sunday by the Kermanshah Medical Sciences University.

“In the current circumstances the Sinopharm vaccines that have been imported by the government and filled the markets only provide five percent protection. Why isn’t [Health Minister Bahram] Einollahi providing any explanations? [Regime President Ebrahim] Raisi and Einollahi say vaccination needs to continue but there are still many unanswered questions about vaccination,” reads a Sunday piece published by the state-run Setareyeh Sobh newspaper.
