Iran coronavirus update: Over 448,000 deaths, state media warn about new signs of 6th peak

Reporting by PMOI/MEK

Iran, October 4, 2021—Over 448,000 people have died of the novel coronavirus in 547 cities checkered across all of Iran’s 31 provinces, according to reports tallied by the Iranian opposition People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) as of Monday afternoon local time, October 4. The official death toll declared by the regime stands at 121,347 around a fourth of the actual figure.

The coronavirus death toll in various provinces include: 104,996 in Tehran, 36,865 in Razavi Khorasan, 30,130 in Isfahan, 27,455 in Khuzestan, 16,108 in West Azerbaijan, 16,100 in West Azerbaijan, 15,793 in East Azerbaijan, 14,965 in Lorestan, 13,133 in Alborz, 12,740 in Sistan & Baluchistan, 12,290 in Qom, 11,887 in Kerman, 7398 in Yazd, and 5004 in Qazvin. This is in addition to reports obtained from other provinces.

The regime’s Health Ministry announced the mullahs’ engineered Covid-19 numbers from the past 24 hours on Monday as 238 deaths and 14,607 new cases, of which 2136 were hospitalized. Furthermore, 5722 patients are in ICUs.

At a time when concerns among the Iranian people and physicians are escalating regarding the regime’s Barekat vaccine, Health Minister Bahram Einollahi resorted to a preposterous lie on this sensitive topic. “From everywhere across the country we are receiving requests for the Barekat vaccine, and everyone is anxious to use it. If you see my mobile phone everyone is asking for the Barekat vaccine. The Barekat vaccine is among the successful vaccines in our country and across the globe,” he said on Sunday, according to the Mehr news agency, an outlet linked to the regime's Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS).

“The number of new coronavirus cases has increased once again compared to yesterday and this trend can be considered an increasing chance of the sixth peak shaping as we speak. The daily ups and downs and constant changes in the number of new cases and other stats can be an alarm bell regarding the start of the sixth wave in the near future,” reads a Monday report wired by the Tasnim news agency, an outlet linked to the regime’s Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) Quds Force.

“The new rise in the number of new cases and those being hospitalized is not unrelated to the end of the recent Arbaeen religious ceremonies and a return of pilgrims from the country’s western borders,” reads a Monday piece in the state-run Hamdeli daily. “During the coronavirus pandemic and with a return of these travelers to the country, the sixth peak is inevitable, and the delta and lambda variants will make the transfer of this illness and the number of deaths far more severe than the previous peaks. It should be emphasized that thousands of people infected with coronavirus have entered Iran and a new crisis is in the making,” the piece adds.

“One week has passed since the new Health Minister pledged that we will be celebrating the end of coronavirus in two weeks. However, there is no sign that we are any closer to such a victory over Covid-19. In a country where each day we have over 200 coronavirus deaths, over 10,000 new cases, and thousands of people are hospitalized, how can we see the conditions as nearing a victory?… These are the Health Ministry’s official numbers that some people, including officials of this very ministry, believe the stats are higher. Even if we do believe the Health Ministry’s figures, we cannot see the country as nearing a victory over coronavirus,” reads a Monday piece in the state-run Jomhouri Eslami (Islamic Republic) daily.

“The coronavirus conditions in [West Azerbaijan] province remains quite poor. During the past 24 hours we have had new cases in four figures, of which 323 were hospitalized. Currently we have 1693 people hospitalized, of which 306 are in ICUs and 56 are under ventilators. During the past 24 hours we had 21 people lose their lives,” said the dean of West Azerbaijan Medical Sciences University on Monday.

“During the past 24 hours we had 363 coronavirus patients hospitalized in centers across [Isfahan] province. There are a total of 1995 people hospitalized as we speak, of which 345 are in ICUs and 24 lost their lives [in the past 24 hours],” according to a statement released Monday by the Isfahan Medical Sciences University.

“During the past 24 hours we had 268 new patients hospitalized and the total figure currently stands at 2013, of which 217 are in ICUs due to their dire conditions,” said the deputy dean of Shiraz Medical Sciences University in Fars province on Monday, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

“The number of dire patients under ventilators in ICUs has increased by 8.2 percent in comparison to yesterday, and the death rate increased by 50 percent,” said the dean of Qazvin Medical Sciences University on Monday, according to the Tasnim news agency.

“In Bushehr the number of coronavirus patients in the fifth peak was 20 per day [from July 23 to August 22]. Currently we have 187 coronavirus patients hospitalized,” according to a report issued on Monday by the Bushehr Province Covid-19 Task Force.
