Iran coronavirus update: Over 428,100 deaths, sixth wave may begin in November

Iran, September 17, 2021—Over 428,100 people have died of the novel coronavirus in 547 cities checkered across all of Iran’s 31 provinces, according to reports tallied by the Iranian opposition People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) as of Friday afternoon local time, September 17. The official death toll declared by the regime stands at 116,436 around a fourth of the actual figure.

The coronavirus death toll in various provinces include: 100,566 in Tehran, 34,525 in Razavi Khorasan, 28,330 in Isfahan, 26,241 in Khuzestan, 16,240 in Mazandaran, 15,359 in Fars, 15,208 in East Azerbaijan, 15,113 in West Azerbaijan, 14,895 in Gilan, 12,533 in Alborz, 12,285 in Sistan & Baluchistan, 11,780 in Qom, 11,267 in Kerman, 81,08 in Hamedan, 7504 in Kermanshah, 7335 in Hormozgan, 6707 in Kurdistan, 5985 in Semnan, 5549 in North Khorasan, 5405 in Ardabil, and 4709 in Qazvin, 3255 in Chaharmahal & Bakhtiari. This is in addition to reports obtained from other provinces.

The regime’s Health Ministry announced the mullahs’ engineered Covid-19 numbers from the past 24 hours on Friday as 364 deaths and 17,605 new cases, of which 2537 were hospitalized. Furthermore, 6902 patients are in ICUs.

“The fifth coronavirus wave, with the Indian delta variant that first spread form the country’s southern regions into the central areas from late June, has to be without a doubt considered the most lethal wave in the past 19 months. The daily coronavirus fatalities, especially from late July onward, set new a new record many times, and on August 24 this figure stood at 709 deaths. We are far away from returning to the conditions of February 2020 and we must not be caught off-guard regarding the sixth wave that may begin in November,” according to a Friday report posted in the state-run Salamat News website.

Deputy dean of Kurdistan Medical Sciences University reports an increase in the number of new cases, those being hospitalized, and as a result, more deaths due to Covid-19. “The numbers of new cases and those being hospitalized are rising as we speak, and the hospitals allocated to these patients have reached capacity. Currently we have more than 900 people hospitalized, being the highest so far this year,” this official explained on Saturday, according to the Tasnim news agency, an outlet linked to the regime’s Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) Quds Force.

 

 

“In comparison to yesterday the number of coronavirus cases has increased by 33 percent. Furthermore, there has been an eight percent increase in the number of dire patients in ICUs, and a 40 percent rise in the number of deaths,” said the dean of Qazvin Medical Sciences University on Friday, according to the Tasnim news agency.

“The trend of coronavirus deaths in [West Azerbaijan] province continues and in the past 24 hours 27 people have lost their lives. Furthermore, 340 more people are hospitalized and we currently have a total of 2205, of which 319 are in ICUs and 78 are under ventilators,” said the dean of West Azerbaijan Medical Sciences University on Friday, according to the Mehr news agency, an outlet linked to the regime's Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS).

 

 

“We have 3363 coronavirus patients hospitalized, of which 532 are in ICUs. During the past 24 hours 50 patients have lost their lives,” according to a statement released on Friday by the Isfahan and Kashan Medical Sciences universities.

“During the past 24 hours 18 people have lost their lives. 750 people are hospitalized in Qom, of which 205 are in dire conditions,” said the dean of Qom Medical Sciences University on Saturday, according to the Mehr news agency.

“The increasing number of new cases is concerning and the daily numbers of confirmed positive cases has reached more than 200 per day,” according to a statement released on Friday by the Semnan Medical Sciences University.
