According to physician reports, in Tehran’s Massih Daneshvari hospital alone, 300 people have died of coronavirus, and Madayen hospital has seen 60 deaths. It is worth noting that there are 138 private and public hospitals in Tehran that are treating coronavirus patients. According to specialist estimates, around 13 percent of COVID-19 patients lose their lives, and government figures only aim to hide this bitter truth.

Kianush Jahanpour, the spokesperson for the Health Ministry, tweeted, “In the past 24 hours, half of the new COVID-19 cases that were referred to hospitals and hospitalized belong to Tehran and Khuzestan. Khuzestan is in a state of COVID-19 outburst.”

Dr. Massoud Mardani, a member of the Coronavirus Task Force, said, “In Tehran, Khuzestan, and Semnan province, and also Mazandaran and Gilan, new cases of the disease are increasing… In Khuzestan, the situation is very critical. Today, Tehran city is in red status.” (Source: ISNA, May 9)

In Qom, specialist doctors say the stats offered by the Health Ministry in no way reflect the reality and to understand the real situation, we must check the cemeteries. Since the doctors realized the virus had entered Qom, they suggested the quarantine of the city, but the government did not listen. The medication that the Chinese government offered the regime to cure the patients are now being sold on the free market, the doctors said.

A doctor from Khuzestan’s Jondishapur Medical Sciences University reported 192 new COVID-19 cases in one day and said that currently, more than 500 patients are hospitalized in Khuzestan’s hospitals. In a joint statement, a group of students from Ahvaz Medical Sciences University said that the current situation “endangers the lives of thousands of people in the province.” Due to the unmeasured and unscientific decisions made by the government, the number of coronavirus cases in Khuzestan has tripled, while the facilities of the province cannot provide for this many patients, the students warned. In Kermanshah, Mehdi Mohammadi, the president of the Coronavirus Task Force information committee, also acknowledged the rising trend of COVID-19 infections and said that in the past day new cases have increased by a factor of five. (Source: Fars News Agency, May 8)

“Government officials bring new plans every day, and then deny those plans the next day,” the state-run Mostaqel newspaper wrote. “The people have been abandoned in facing the virus and it’s not clear what the Coronavirus Task Force is doing. We’re only hearing the orders of the president, who is trying to normalize the situation. They don’t know that the virus does not take orders.”
