“In Khuzestan province the death toll has increased. In Hamedan, the increase in the number of people hospitalized and daily deaths due to Covid-19 is considerable. In Sistan and Baluchistan the rise in the number of people being hospitalized and dying has increased significantly and continues its trend. We are on the verge of a new peak,” according to a Sunday report wired by the semi-official ISNA news agency.

Secretariat of the National Covid-19 Task Force issued a statement in response to claims made by Ebrahim Raisi, a candidate in the regime’s presidential election and best known for his direct role in the 1988 massacre of over 30,000 political prisoners, about health protocols being fully abided at his election rallies. “In these rallies coronavirus protocols were not respected. The license was issued for 7 to 9 pm with a maximum attendance of 4,000 people, allocating four meters for each person. At 7 pm the event had not started since there was 400 people attending. Finally, 4,000 people were bussed from 28 different cities and towns. The event began at 10 pm in violation of all protocols and licenses issued by the National Covid-19 Task Force,” this statement read in part, according to a Sunday report published by the Etemad Online website.

“The main problem in the provinces of Bushehr, Hormozgan, Sistan & Baluchistan is concerns over the Indian variant. The daily death toll has surpassed the official average,” said Masoud Mardani, a senior member of the National Covid-19 Task Force on Sunday. “However, considering the high number of dire patients that are hospitalized, and patients whose lung conditions have deteriorated, providing aid to the patients has become even more difficult. These patients lose their lives, and the numbers are different each day. The number of chronic patients remains high. Daily death tolls will remain in the three digits for at least the next two or three weeks,” he added, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

“Currently most of the working groups are active, while some occupations should be shut down during red or orange level status. Only groups one and two should be active. The daily death toll remains high. Even if the vaccination rate increases, all health protocols need to be abided until herd immunity is reached,” said a Deputy Health Minister on Sunday, according to the state-run Mashreq News daily.

“Elections campaigns are far from abiding by health protocols. If this trend continues without a doubt [Kermanshah] province will face a fifth peak,” said the dean of Kermanshah Medical Sciences University on Sunday. “In the coming weeks we will be witnessing an increasing number of people hospitalized and many dying like never before,” this official added, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

“We still have more than 200 people hospitalized per day while back in February and March these stats had reached below the 100 mark. We are concerned about a fifth peak due to the elections,” said the deputy dean of Mashhad Medical Sciences University on Sunday, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

“The number of people who died last week in comparison to the week before indicate a 3.4 percent increase. Last week in the city of Howeizeh the number of new cases per day had increased by 14 percent. It has been two weeks since any vaccine has entered the country and the vaccination process has slowed,” said the dean of Ahvaz Medical Sciences University on Sunday, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.
