“The illness remains unstable, sensitive and fragile. In some red cities the Indian and South African variants are spreading. The highest number of patients hospitalized during the past week were reported in the provinces of Chaharmahal & Bakhtiari, Ilam, and Khuzestan. The highest death tolls are reported in Alborz, Chaharmahal & Bakhtiari, and North Khorasan provinces,” said the regime’s Health Ministry spokesperson on Tuesday, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

“The fact that a number of people have contracted the Indian and African variants in some of parts of [Tehran province] has increased the spread of these mutations to other provinces,” said the dean of Iran Medical Sciences University on Tuesday. “In this trend of the illness we are also witnessing mutations inside the country and this process will most likely continue. The mutations are not limited to those of foreign countries,” this official added, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

“The fourth wave had a higher number of cases in comparison to the previous waves. It also lasted a bit longer,” said the deputy dean of Iran Medical Sciences University on Tuesday, according to the Mehr news agency, an outlet linked to the regime's Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS).

“The number of patients has increased higher than we expected. The number of patients being hospitalized and those seeking medical attention for Covid-19 symptoms have risen significantly. 90 percent of the beds are occupied with patients and there is unprecedented pressure on our medical staff,” said the head of a hospital in the city of Kahnuj of Kerman province, south-central Iran on Tuesday, according to the regime’s official IRIB news agency.

In Khuzestan province the dean of Jondi Shapour Medical Sciences University said on Tuesday that the province has ran out of vaccine doses and are awaiting the next consignment to continue the vaccination process, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

“The spread of the Indian and African variants across the country has led to an increase in concerns regarding a fifth peak in Mazandaran province [northern Iran],” said the caretaker chief of traffic police on Tuesday. “From Tuesday to Sunday there will be a ban on commuting across the province and there will be no intercommuting between provinces,” this official added, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

“During the past 24 hours we have had 203 new coronavirus patients while 174 were released during this time period,” said the spokesperson of Isfahan Medical Sciences University on.
