Reporting by PMOI/MEK

Iran, May 22, 2021—Over 295,600 people have died of the novel coronavirus in 542 cities checkered across all of Iran’s 31 provinces, according to reports tallied by the Iranian opposition People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) as of Saturday afternoon local time, May 22. The official death toll declared by the regime stands at 78,381, around a fourth of the actual figure.

While regime experts are expressing grave concerns about the spread of the Indian and African variants, and a fifth wave beginning, regime President Hassan Rouhani resorted to more of his lies on Saturday. “In all provinces we have surpassed the peak. Our path forward is of decline. Our red zone areas are limited in numbers,” he claimed. “After Ramadan for three months we usually see a drop in the number of weddings, celebrations, and gatherings. And especially considering it being the summer season, all the vacations and related issues will be hand in hand to make things even more difficult… If we see a new peak in mid-June, we will not be able to hold glorious elections as expected, and people will face difficulties participating in the elections,” Rouhani added. As a result, Rouhani intends to blame the Iranian people’s nationwide boycotting of the regime’s elections façade on a new coronavirus spread.

“The number of red areas has increased to eight cities, 233 cities and towns are considered orange zones, 207 are yellow zones and we have no blue zones. The cities of Asaluyeh, Kangan, Chabahar, Bandar Abbas, Parsian, Jask, Rudan and Minab are red zone areas,” according to a Saturday statement released by the regime’s Health Ministry.

“There are still concerns in three southern provinces, including Bushehr, Sistan & Baluchistan, and Hormozgan. The mutated Indian and South African variants may spread in these provinces, similar to Khuzestan where a few months ago we saw the spread of the mutated UK variant that expanded across the country,” said Alireza Raisi, spokesperson of the National Covid-19 Task Force on Saturday, according to the regime's official IRNA news agency.

Many cities across Iran have been reporting massive power outages. Hossein Kermanpour, director of public relations of the Medical Apparatus Organization, shed light on sudden power outages experienced on Saturday in the Iranian capital Tehran.

“A patient that is in constant need of a ventilator is placed in grave danger. Finding a replacement oxygen tank and conducting the replacement work is not easy. Oxygen tanks cannot be purchased in the streets and prices are quite high. Even renting the oxygen tanks have become extremely expensive,” Kermanpour explained. “Far more important than the price of an oxygen tank, finding one and actually providing one to a patient, is the fact that replacing it at the exact right moment is extremely important. The sudden power outages can place the life of a patient in grave danger,” he continued, according to the state official Rokna news agency.

“The number of people being hospitalized for coronavirus has increased to 71 percent of those testing positive each day. During the past 24 hours we have had 243 people contracting the virus, of which 173 were hospitalized. This indicates the status quo of the patients are extremely poor,” said the dean of West Azerbaijan Medical Sciences University on Saturday, according to the regime's official IRNA news agency.

“The Health Ministry issued a warning of a fifth wave due to the spread of the Indian and African variants in Kerman. These conditions can lead to highly difficult circumstances in Kerman province,” said the governor of this province on Saturday, according to the Mehr news agency, an outlet linked to the regime's Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS).
