“We have certain surpassed the fourth wave, meaning we reached a peak everywhere and surpassed it, and we are currently on the downward trend,” said regime President Hassan Rouhani yesterday.

“We have contained the fourth coronavirus wave. The numbers regarding this wave have begun to decline across the country,” said regime Health Minister Saied Namaki on Sunday. All the while, the number of people who died of coronavirus, based on the regime’s own engineered numbers announced by the Health Ministry, increased from 200 on Saturday and reached 303 on Sunday. There were 7723 new cases on Saturday while this figure was reported at 11,291 on Sunday.

Alireza Raisi, spokesperson of the National Covid-19 Task Force in Iran, reported 60 cases of the Indian and African variants have been identified across the country, adding the provinces of Sistan & Baluchistan, Hormozgan, Kerman, Bushehr, Khuzestan and even South Khorasan need to take more precautions, according to a Sunday report published by the state-run Hamshahri daily.

“The number of people seeking medical care in hospitals for Covid-19 symptoms continues to be high. If we do not abide by the protocols the fifth Covid-19 wave will be upon us,” said Masoud Mardani, a senior member of the National Covid-19 Task Force on Sunday, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

“The Barekat Company and other such firms involved in producing the coronavirus vaccine have not reached the point to begin production. Until the Iranian vaccines reach mass production, it is necessary to import vaccines from abroad,” said Minoo Mohraz, another senior member of the National Covid-19 Task Force on Sunday, according to the Mizan news agency, an outlet linked to the regime’s judiciary branch.

“In Tehran we are still considered a red zone area. Each day we are hospitalizing around 1000 coronavirus patients. We still have 7000 coronavirus patients hospitalized and considering the new variants a fifth wave is quite likely,” said Nader Tavakoli, deputy chief of the National Covid-19 Task Force on Sunday, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

“We need to guide the country towards vaccination. If a city is to be quarantined, this must take place very quickly. Hourly restrictions and curfews are no longer effective,” said a senior expert in Tehran’s renowned Masih Daneshvari Hospital on Saturday. “The coronavirus began spreading following the [February 2020] Majlis (parliament) elections. Following the [June 18 presidential] election we will most definitely have the fifth wave… we will also most certainly reach more peaks afterwards. Pre-election gatherings will actually accelerate this process,” this expert added, according to the regime's official IRNA news agency.

According to reports from medical universities across Iran in the past 24 hours, 25 coronavirus patients in Isfahan, 21 in Alborz, and 21 in Fars provinces have lost their lives. These numbers include the people who have died in hospitals and had tested positive for Covid-19, according to a Sunday report wired by the according to the Mehr news agency, an outlet linked to the regime's Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS).
