Regime President Hassan Rouhani resorted to desperate remarks today in an attempt to decrease growing popular anger over the regime’s refusal to provide the vaccine to the Iranian public. “There’s not enough vaccine doses available in the world today. Neither inside Iran nor other countries. There are very few countries who were able to use the vaccine in relatively good fashion,” he said. “If we are able to, God willing, vaccinate 12 to 13 million people who are in grave danger prior to August when this government’s tenure comes to an end, it will be a great achievement… Certain is the fact that this virus still exists today, and it is spreading under various names and different mutations. As time passes by the mutations are seen in a natural manner,” Rouhani added.

“There are cases of the Indian variant and most have been in the country’s southern and eastern provinces. We need to be careful in Sistan & Baluchistan, Hormozgan and Bushehr provinces,” said Alireza Raisi, spokesperson of the National Covid-19 Task Force on Saturday. “All provinces have started to see a decreasing trend. Two or three provinces need to be more careful. East Azerbaijan, Hormozgan and Sistan & Baluchistan need to take more precautions,” he added, according to the Mehr news agency, an outlet linked to the regime's Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS).

“Considering the fact that cases of the mutated African and Indian variants have been identified, [Hormozgan] province is in grave danger of this virus spreading. The number of people seeking initial medical care for Covid-19 symptoms, those being quarantined, and the number of new positive cases have seen significant increases. The number of people dying of Covid-19, those being hospitalized and those being placed in ICUs will continue to increase for the next two weeks. We currently have 408 coronavirus patients hospitalized, of which 64 are in ICUs,” said the spokesperson of Hormozgan Medical Sciences University on Saturday, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

The dean of West Azarbaijan Medical University said on Saturday, “In the past day, 156 people were hospitalized in [the province’s] medical centers and the total number of hospitalized patients has reached 1,145, of who 233 are in ICU. In the past 24 hours, 17 covid-19 patients have lost their lives.” (Source: Mehr News Agency)
