Iran coronavirus update: Over 269,300 deaths, many provinces reporting dire conditions

Iran, April 28, 2021—Over 269,300 people have died of the novel coronavirus in 541 cities checkered across all of Iran’s 31 provinces, according to reports tallied by the Iranian opposition People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) as of Wednesday afternoon local time, April 28. The official death toll declared by the regime stands at 70,966, around a fourth of the actual figure.

The coronavirus death toll in various provinces include: 61,721 in Tehran, 17,610 in Isfahan, 16,905 in Razavi Khorasan, 16,394 in Khuzestan, 11,270 in Mazandaran, 11,253 in Lorestan, 11,038 in East Azerbaijan, 10,088 in West Azerbaijan, 9401 in Gilan, 9185 in Qom, 8222 in Fars, 6993 in Alborz, 6141 in Sistan & Baluchistan, 6795 in Golestan, 6083 in Hamedna, 6059 in Kerman, 5628 in Markazi (Central), 4755 in Semnan, 4003 in North Khorasan, 3402 in Ardabil, 3115 in Hormozgan, 2965 in Zanjan, 2794 in Bushehr, and 2771 in Ilam. This is in addition to reports obtained from other provinces.

“Currently we have 2275 coronavirus patients hospitalized in Isfahan province, of which 389 are in ICUs. During the past 24 hours 39 coronavirus patients have lost their lives,” said the spokesperson for the Isfahan Medical Sciences University on Wednesday, according to the Mehr news agency, an outlet linked to the regime's Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS).

“Right now, we have 1348 coronavirus patients hospitalized, of which 251 are in ICUs and 69 are under ventilators. During the past 24 hours 18 coronavirus patients have lost their lives,” said the dean of West Azerbaijan Medical Sciences University on Wednesday, according to the Mehr news agency.

“The conditions of 60 patients are reported to be dire. All cities and towns of Hamedan province are registered as red zones,” said the spokesperson of Hamedan Medical Sciences University on Wednesday, according to the regime's official IRNA news agency. 19 coronavirus patients have died in the past 24 hours in Hamedan province.

 

 

“During the past 24 hours 14 coronavirus patients have lost their lives in [Bushehr] province. We currently have 471 coronavirus patients hospitalized, of which 54 are in ICUs and 26 are under ventilators,” said the chair of Bushehr Covid-19 Task Force on Tuesday, according to the regime's official IRNA news agency.

Dean of North Khorasan Medical Sciences University on Wednesday described conditions in the province as critical and reported 13 coronavirus deaths in past 24 hours. “The number of people being hospitalized for Covid-19 and the death toll are both increasing. Currently North Khorasan is among the country’s seven provinces that are experiencing a rising number of coronavirus patients. With 111 new patients hospitalized in the past 24 hours, the number currently stands at 429 coronavirus patients hospitalized,” this official added, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

Dean of Ardabil Medical Sciences University reported on Wednesday nine coronavirus deaths in the past 24 hours. “Currently the conditions of our patients in ICUs are very poor and 80 people across the province are in dire conditions,” this official added, according to the Mehr news agency.

In Gilan province director of the local Hygiene Center said on Wednesday that eight of the 17 cities and towns are registered as red zones and nine are orange. “Coronavirus is active and transmitting across the province. 151 new patients have been hospitalized throughout Gilan for Covid-19. We now have 828 coronavirus patients hospitalized in our province, of which 128 are in dire conditions,” this official continued, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.
