Iran coronavirus update: Over 266,500 deaths, highest daily death toll since pandemic began

Iran, April 26, 2021—Over 266,500 people have died of the novel coronavirus in 541 cities checkered across all of Iran’s 31 provinces, according to reports tallied by the Iranian opposition People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) as of Monday afternoon local time, April 26. The official death toll declared by the regime stands at 70,070, around a fourth of the actual figure.

The coronavirus death toll in various provinces include: 61,051 in Tehran, 17,410 in Isfahan, 16,795 in Razavi Khorasan, 16,194 in Khuzestan, 11,195 in Mazandaran, 11,163 in Lorestan, 10938 in East Azerbaijan, 9993 in West Azerbaijan, 9311 in Gilan, 9145 in Qom, 8077 in Fars, 6873 in Alborz, 6745 in Golestan, 6066 in Sistan & Baluchistan, 6008 in Hamedan, 5994 in Kerman, 5354 in Kermanshah, 4725 in Semnan, 3953 in North Khorasan, 3352 in Ardabil, 3075 in Hormozgan, 2930 in Zanjan, and 2746 in Ilam. This is in addition to reports obtained from other provinces.

The regime’s Health Ministry spokesperson announced the mullahs’ engineered Covid-19 numbers from the past 24 hours on Monday as 496 deaths, the highest since the pandemic began.

“I believed that Covid-19 would have us engaged for at least three years. I believed that we had to plan for our own mutations. We will have our own domestic mutations that are different from the mutations seen in Africa, the UK, Brazil and India,” said Health Minister Saied Namaki on Monday, according to state TV.

“In this peak we have twice the number of people hospitalized in comparison to the last peak. The mutated UK strain entered the country and there is a possibility that the Indian strain is also inside our borders,” said Deputy Health Minister Ghasem Janbabaie on Monday, according to the regime's official IRNA news agency.

“In these past ten days we are experiencing the heaviest and most intensive wave in Tehran resulting from Covid-19. We are forecasting that these conditions will see no change in at least the next ten to 14 days,” said Alireza Zali, head of the Tehran Covid-19 Task Force, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

“The number of people hospitalized will be high for at least the next two weeks and in the next two weeks we will be having high death tolls,” said Nader Tavakoli, deputy chair of the Tehran Covid-19 Task Force on Monday. “We have 1400 people hospitalized in our hospitals each day and are providing medical are to nearly as many patients suffering from Covid-19 symptoms. The ICUs are packed and the death toll in those branches are extremely high. One in every four patient hospitalized is in ICU,” he added, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

 

 

In Eslamshahr, the head of Imam Reza Hospital said on Monday, “We only hospitalize critical patients. In the fourth peak, the number of incoming patients and patients in critical conditions has increased fivefold. Even though we have added a new section in the past week, we don’t have any free beds in the hospital. The hospital’s emergency section is filled, the conditions are not good, and many of the doctors and medical staff have contracted the virus and are hospitalized.” (Source: Mehr)

In Khuzestan province, the deputy dean of Ahvaz Medical Sciences University said on Monday, “The conditions of hospitals is still red and the number of incoming patients is very high. 90-100 percent of ICU beds and 70-80 percent of ordinary beds are occupied.” (Source: ISNA)

 

 

In Mazandaran province, the Covid-19 outbreak broke new records with 18 deaths, according to Mehr News Agency on Monday. According to the Mazandaran and Babol Medical Sciences University, of 1,355 hospitalized patients, 214 are in critical conditions.

In Fars province, the dean of Shiraz Medical Sciences University said on Monday, “With the hospitalization of 446 new Covid-19 patients, all beds in the province are now occupied. There are 2,792 hospitalized patients and all beds are occupied.” (Source: Mehr News Agency)

In Ardebil, the spread of covid is still growing, and in the past day, 13 people have lost their lives, bringing the total officially acknowledged deaths to 1,605, according to IRNA news agency on Monday. The dean of the medical sciences university said, “In the past week, the number of cases and hospitalized patients has increased by more than fourfold and broke new records.”
