At a time when many parts of Iran are registered as black zones of Covid-19, there is still no significant progress in procuring the vaccine or general vaccination. Based on the stats announced by the regime’s Health Minister Saied Namaki, less than one percent of the Iranian population have received only one dose of the vaccine.

“To this day around 400,000 people have been vaccinated,” he said on Friday, pledging the vaccination of “1.3 million members of the country’s health apparatus and special patients prior to the end of next week.”

“Next week will be very difficult. Last week I said that many areas will be red zones and even registered as black zones. In most of our cities and towns we are reaching record numbers in this pandemic and conditions are getting out of hand. In Hamedan province they had seven patients on March 19 and yesterday they reported 1452 patients hospitalized for coronavirus,” Namaki explained, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

“In 63 cities and towns the Covid-19 mark will be surpassing the red zone criteria. Of the two million Russian Sputnik vaccines ordered we have received 420,000 doses. 16.8 million COVAX doses have been purchased, but the companies providing for COVAX have gone back on their words,” said Alireza Raisi, spokesperson of the National Covid-19 Task Force on Friday.

The state-run Khabar Online website said the vaccination process is untransparent and very slow. Of the 895,000 vaccine doses distributed 467,000 doses have been given to patients. Prior to this Raisi claimed that the country’s health network has the ability to vaccinate 20 million people, according to Khabar Online’s Friday piece.

“The number of people seeking medical care for Covid-19 symptoms in [Tehran] province has been unprecedented to this day. One in every two people seeking medical care have positive PCR tests. This indicates how vast the virus has been spreading across the province,” said Alireza Zali, head of the Tehran Covid-19 Task Force on Friday, according to ISNA.

“The morgue of a hospital in Tehran had no room for Covid-19 fatalities. They had placed a few dead bodies outside of the morgue. To this day I have never witnessed such conditions,” said an official in Tehran’s Sina Hospital on Friday, according to the state-run Booltan News.

“The crisis resulting form this illness is spreading with each passing day. Yesterday 115 died of Covid-19, according to stats released by [Tehran’s] Behesht-e Zahra Cemetery. In the National Covid-19 Task Force, despite the fact that the mayor needs to be present, and Tehran is considered the heart of Iran, there is no representative of the city’s management ranks,” said a member of the Tehran City Council Health Committee on Friday, according to the state-run Behdasht News website.

“In Isfahan province, aside from the Kashan area, 2290 coronavirus patients are hospitalized, of which 310 are in ICUs. In the past 24 hours we have lost 24 patients to Covid-19,” said the spokesperson of Isfahan Medical Sciences University on Friday, according to the Mehr news agency, an outlet linked to the regime’s Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS).

“With 19 coronavirus patients losing their lives in the past 24 hours, the total number of Covid-19 fatalities in Hamedan province stands at 1693. In the past 24 hours we have had 926 positive tests reported,” said the spokesperson of Hamedan Medical Sciences University on Friday, according to the regime’s official IRNA news agency.

“The Covid-19 branches of our hospitals have reached their full capacity due to the recent wave. In the next few days there will be many deaths reported due to coronavirus and we have difficult days ahead of us,” said the deputy dean of Kurdistan Medical Sciences University on Friday, according to IRNA.

The dean of Ahvaz Medical Sciences University said the two cities of Ahvaz and Abadan are now considered black zones due to the high coronavirus stats. “The criteria for considering a region a black zone has been recently announced by the National Covid-19 Task Force. Twelve or more people hospitalized per 100,000 people, including confirmed positive cases and those considered probable,” this official said on Friday, according to IRNA.

The mayor of Amol emphasized that conditions are very critical in this city in northern Iran. “After eight months we have once again surpassed the number of 300 patients hospitalized. We have 327 coronavirus patients hospitalized right now. The number of Covid-19 deaths have increased and the average age of people dying of this virus is decreasing. Even a 13-year-old was confirmed dead of coronavirus. We need more nurses, and we are requesting last-year medical students, nurses, service personnel and Red Crescent members to come to our aid,” this official said on Friday, according to IRNA.
