Regime President Hassan Rouhani, who was just recently claiming Covid-19 is under control, was talking about the fourth wave on Saturday and “difficult days and weeks ahead.” The mutated UK strain of coronavirus entered the country from Iraq into Khuzestan and Ilam provinces, and due to Nowruz (Iranian calendar new year) vacations and people not abiding by the health protocols it has now spread across the country, he claimed.

“On Covid-19 we need to all be in one voice. We should not be making a variety of comments. If anyone is to go on TV and say whatever they want, we will be giving pretexts to the enemies and if God forbid, an individual makes wrong remarks, well, it will make our medical professionals exhausted,” he continued.

Head of the regime’s Majlis (parliament) Health Committee accused Rouhani of mismanagement, adding that this committee had written a letter to the head of the regime’s judiciary to take judicial action against Rouhani. “Time and again [Rouhani] was advised to cancel the daily 30 flights from Khuzestan to other parts of the country. However, he did not listen. Why does he not mention the recent Health Minister’s letter to stop Turkish flights and his opposition to this request? Two and half months ago I wrote to him and warned that all flights from European countries where the UK strain has been found should be cancelled. Which one did they cancel? Time and again the Health Minister and others said other flights should be cancelled. However, Mr. Rouhani had claimed on March 27 that the fourth peak was over,” he said on Saturday, according to the Fars news agency, an outlet linked to the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC).

“One can say with confidence that the mutated UK strain is spreading far and wide across the country. In 12 provinces the numbers are rising at an extremely fast rate. In 11 other province the rate is fast,” said Alireza Raisi, spokesperson of the National Covid-19 Task Force on Saturday, according to state TV.

“No one can say we were caught off guard. Right now, negligence is showing its impact. It is not just the mutated strain that is spreading. There are also the Brazilian and other mutated strains seen circulating across the country. The number of new cases has risen tremendously and in the next one or two weeks we will be witnessing everyone will see how the death rate will rise,” said Hamid Emadi, a member of the National Covid-19 Task Force Scientific Committee on Saturday, according to the regime's official IRNA news agency.

“Hospitals beds and ICU branches are all packed. One of the issues that is making hospital personnel frustrated is the lack room to hospitalize their patients. We are forecasting the death rate to go far higher,” said Masoud Mardani, another member of the National Covid-19 Task Force Scientific Committee on Friday, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

“The city of Borujerd has surpassed the red zone status and has become a critical black zone. We will be facing a humanitarian catastrophe if people do not abide by health protocols in the coming week and days,” said the deputy governor of Borujerd on Saturday, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

Dean of Alborz Medical Sciences University reported 16 coronavirus deaths in the past 24 hours, according to a Saturday report wired by the regime’s official IRNA news agency.

“The numbers are indicating a catastrophic situation and we are seeing such signs in our hospitals. The first line in the fight against Covid-19 has been overcome and we have reached the second line,” said a senior health official in Qom province on Saturday, according to the regime's official IRNA news agency.

“The death toll has doubled in comparison to two weeks ago,” said the deputy dean of Bushehr Medical Sciences University on Friday, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

“We have 1050 hospitalized coronavirus patients right now while two weeks ago this number stood at 400. The death toll was two to four people per day two weeks ago, while it has reached eight to 11 as we speak,” said the deputy dean of East Azerbaijan Medical Sciences University on Saturday, according to the Mehr news agency, an outlet linked to the regime's Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS).

In Ilam the increasing trend of hospitalized Covid-19 patients has led to this province having the highest increase rate across the country, according to a Saturday report wired by the Mehr news agency.

“We are facing a fourth coronavirus wave that has led to an increase in the number of patients in our hospitals. With these increasing numbers in the coming week our hospitals will be at full capacity and there will be no room for new patients,” said a senior health expert in South Khorasan province on Saturday, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.
