“Instructions have been issued for a ten-day lockdown period across the country starting this Saturday, April 10. Afterwards conditions will be evaluated and if necessary, these circumstances can be extended,” said Alireza Raisi, spokesperson of the National Covid-19 Task Force on Friday. “Currently we have 257 cities and towns registered as red zones. Local vehicles are banned from entering other cities and towns, and non-local vehicles are banned from entering red and orange zone cities and towns. All educational facilities will be closed, and they can only provide online services. Cultural events fall under the same guidelines. Cinemas, theaters and … must definitely be closed,” he added, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

A member of the National Covid-19 Task Force Scientific Committee emphasized that Iran has a harsh period of two to three weeks with three-digit death tolls. “Hospitals are being packed at an extremely fast rate and the patients that we are hospitalizing are mostly in dire conditions. This leads to hospitals quickly reaching their full capacity, leaving them unable to accept new patients. They may not be able to provide adequate medical services to the people. There are many patients and most of them are in dire conditions,” this official said on Friday. On the possibility of Tehran and other red cities may turn into black zones this official said: “This depends on if officials take urgent action. If they continue with the current trend conditions in red zone cities and towns may evolve into black zones. If we had taken quicker and more serious action, we would not be witnessing such death tolls. It was clear as day this was going to happen,” this official concluded.

“The number of coronavirus patients in Tehran province has been rising in the past few days and this trend continues. The number of people medical care yesterday at Tehran’s hospitals reached a total of 7600, indicating a 15 percent increase in comparison to the day before,” said the deputy chair of the Tehran Covid-19 Task Force on Friday. “The total number of Covid-19 patients hospitalized in Tehran province stands at 5500 and 58 people died of coronavirus. These numbers are increasing due to polluted air conditions,” this official added. “The number of people being hospitalized is more than those being released,” he continued, according to the regime's official IRNA news agency.

“Reports from all three Medical Sciences universities in Tehran province indicate that we are facing a rising number of patients seeking medical care for coronavirus. Each day the number of people being hospitalized and especially in ICUs. During the past two days more than 300 coronavirus patients were waiting for ICU beds,” according to a Friday report wired by the Mehr news agency, an outlet linked to the regime's Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS).

The dean of West Azarbaijan Medical Sciences University said on Friday, “In the next few days, all cities of the province will become red zones. According to the latest statistics, we have 872 hospitalized patients, of which 203 are in ICU. As the capacity of public hospitals become full, 20 percent of beds in private hospitals in the province are also being allocated to coronavirus patients.” (Source: ILNA news agency)
