Despite the fact that the UK strain of Covid-19 is spreading across Iran and taking more lives with each passing day, and despite the catastrophically low number of people being vaccinated each day, regime Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei in his speech today marking the new Iranian calendar new year refused to even express sympathy with the families of coronavirus victims. Instead, he listed a series of shameful lies claiming his regime has been successful in the fight against Covid-19 and talked about “producing domestic vaccines through different routes” that have “brought pride to the country.”

“Currently we have 12 red zone cities and 39 orange zone cities. Based on the instructions of the National Covid-19 Task Force, commuting to and from red and orange cities is forbidden,” said the spokesperson for the regime’s Health Ministry on Sunday, according to the regime's official IRNA news agency.

“2200 coronavirus patients are hospitalized across the city of Tehran, of which 780 are in ICUs. Once again, we had 370 new patients hospitalized in one day, of which 80 are in ICUs,” said Alireza Zali, head of the Tehran Covid-19 Task Force on Sunday. “ICU patients are in dire conditions due to the mutated virus. Circumstances will be getting worse in the next few days and conditions are very fragile. The cities of Damavand and Firuzkuh are among the orange zone cities,” he added, according to the Javan daily, an outlet linked to the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC).

“Recently the UK strain has especially engulfed the city of Tehran. All members of a family are contracting the virus together,” said Minoo Mohraz, a senior member of the regime’s National Covid-19 Task Force on Sunday.

The spokesperson of Hormozgan Medical Sciences University said on Sunday, “In the past 24 hours, 63 people in Hormozgan province contracted the UK strain coronavirus, and the total number of cases of this province has reached 270.” (Source: ISNA news agency)

The dean of Western Azarbaijan Medical Sciences University said on Sunday, “There are 147 coronavirus in ICU. This is about 50 percent more than what we had in February. Thirty-three of these patients are on ventilator support and they are in very bad conditions. The total number of Covid-19 deaths in Western Azarbaijan has reached 3720.” (Source: IRNA news agency)

The deputy dean of Gilan Medical Sciences University said on Sunday, “There are currently 288 hospitalized coronavirus patients in Gilan province. Seventy-two of these patients are in bad conditions and are being kept in ICU sections of the province’s treatment centers.” (Source: Mehr News Agency)

In Isfahan province, the sanitation deputy of Natanz city expressed concern about the increase in coronavirus cases on Sunday and said, “The increase in positive cases in the past days and weeks shows the illness is spreading, and this will result in an increase in the number of hospitalized patients and hospitals running out of bed capacity in the next few days.” (Source: Tasnim News Agency)
