“The UK and South African strains are not the only mutated strains of this virus and there are most certainly different strains from across the world, including our own country,” said Alireza Raisi, spokesperson of the National Covid-19 Task Force on Friday. “The UK strain has been identified in the provinces of Khuzestan, Tehran, Razavi Khorasan, Alborz, Qazvin, Fars and Hormozgan. As a result, the virus has spread across the country. We are extremely concerned about that, God forbid, the virus will expand enormously and become an epidemic. The number of blue cities is decreasing by the day and until there is enough vaccination we should expect a strange surge by this virus at any moment,” he added, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

“The constant mutation of this virus has made efforts to control and treat this illness quite difficult. The UK strain is spreading in various provinces. Any delay and reservations in procuring and distributing the vaccine will have irreparable consequences,” said the head of the regime’s Medical Apparatus Organization on Friday, according to the state-controlled IMNA news agency.

“During the past two or three weeks in Khuzestan we have had an increasing trend of Covid-19 cases and we are in a situation that we are the only province across the country with 11 red zone cities,” said the deputy dean of Ahvaz Medical Sciences University on Friday, according to ISNA.

“The number of Covid-19 fatalities during the past 24 hours was higher than previous days. Seven coronavirus patients lost their lives during this period despite the efforts of our medical professionals. The total number of coronavirus deaths in this province stands 2743,” said the dean of Alborz Medical Sciences University on Friday, according to the regime’s official IRNA news agency.

“128 coronavirus patients are in ICUs which is 30 percent higher than the month before when we had 99 such patients, being the lowest number of ICU patients,” said the dean of West Azerbaijan Medical Sciences University on Friday. “The total number of Covid-19 deaths in this province stands at 3618,” this official added, according to the IRNA news agency.

In Ilam, while the UK strain entered this area only a short while ago, this province has now turned into one of Iran’s main epicenters of this virus. To this day 14 individuals in the city of Dehloran have contracted this virus and this figure could rise. “The number of Covid-19 cases has increased significantly in the past few weeks,” said the deputy dean of Ilam Medical Sciences University on Friday, according to the Mehr news agency, an outlet linked to the regime’s Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS).
