“17 confirmed cases of the mutated UK strain have been identified in Iran to this day and the threat of this virus spreading is very real. Seven of these individuals were in Qazvin province,” said the director of the Health Ministry’s Public Relations Office on Tuesday. “For this very reason special measures will be implemented to detect and control this virus in Qazvin province. There are signs indicating a fourth wave in some provinces and it is far more dangerous than previous waves,” this official added, according to the regime's official IRNA news agency.

“Officials should not specifically talk about a fourth peak of this illness across the country because it will result in a wave of concerns in our society,” said a member of the regime’s Majlis (parliament) Health Committee on Tuesday, according to the Majlis website.

“The number of people hospitalized for Covid-19 that are under the age of 15 stood at 0.9 percent and has now risen to 5.11 percent. The death rate has risen from 0.7 percent to 6.3 percent,” said the governor of Tehran province on Tuesday, according to the state controlled Hamshahri daily.

“Conditions in ICUs are catastrophic. One can say the number of patients has increased ten-fold,” said a senior official in Tehran’s Loghman Hospital on Tuesday. “The fourth Covid-19 peak has begun, and it may be more severe than previous peaks. If they shut down Tehran for two weeks right now, we will have better circumstances for the Nowrouz (Persian calendar new year from March 21). New Zealand identified a few cases and shut down the country for three days. In our country they wait until the utmost damage is done and then take action. Now is the time that we must increase the restrictions, not when the story is at its climax,” this official explained, according to Hamshahri daily.

“The spread of this mutated strain can result in a horrific wave. The mutated UK strain spreads around five times faster and has a death rate three times higher. This means if the fourth peak does take place the resulting death rate will be 15 times higher,” said the head of Tehran’s Sina Hospital on Monday, according to state TV.

“Currently we have 135 coronavirus patients in ICUs, and this is 36 percent higher than last week. 36 individuals are under ventilators and are in very dire conditions,” said the dean of West Azerbaijan Medical Sciences University on Tuesday. 97 new coronavirus patients have been hospitalized in the past 24 hours alone, this official added, according to the regime's official IRNA news agency.

“The number of positive Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours have increased fivefold in southwest areas of Khuzestan province in comparison to the previous 24 hour period,” said the dean of Abadan Medical Sciences University on Tuesday, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

“During the past 24 hours the number of people seeking medical care for coronavirus symptoms and those being hospitalized reached more than 1000. This has been the highest such stat for some time,” said the dean of Ahvaz Medical Sciences University on Tuesday, according to the regime's official IRNA news agency.

“The increasing trend of Covid-19 cases and those being hospitalized sounds an alarm bell for the city of Sirjan. In the past 24 hours we have had 124 positive cases, being unprecedented in the past six months,” said the spokesperson of the Sirjan Covid-19 Task Force on Tuesday, according to the semi-official ISNA news agency.

“The Covid-19 status quo is like fire under the ashes. Currently we have 147 coronavirus patients hospitalized, of which 40 are in ICUs,” said the spokesperson of the Yazd Medical Sciences University on Tuesday, according to the Mehr news agency, an outlet linked to the regime's Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS).
